A word of warning - Away from football

Afternoon all,

I'd like to take a minute to just post something on here that isn't football related.

On Saturday evening, my house was unfortunately broken into and thousands of pounds worth of personal belongings were stolen (as if things couldn't get any worse after the Fulham defeat). Sentimental things that we cannot get back.

They kicked through our french doors, climbed through a gap, found the keys and let themselves out. Unfortunately, they wore gloves and neighbours didn't see/hear anything so the chances of us getting our things back are slim to nothing.

Thankfully, none of us were in and everyone is safe. We're putting our energy into increasing security measures to prevent this from happening again, rather than taking a victim mentality and dwelling on what has happened.

Please, don't have the attitude of 'it won't happen to me' because it could do and it's one of the worst crimes to happen. Pulling into my drive and seeing our big sturdy wooden gates wide open at the back of drive, we instantly knew and it'll stay with us. Seeing your home in an unrecognisable state is awful. But we have to dust ourselves off and get back to it. I'm trying to raise awareness for everyone to make sure you lock your doors and apply all the security measures you can to ensure your home, family and belongings are safe from these waste of oxygen people.

Be safe out there people!

Can't begin to imagine what it must be like. As you said you won't let it spoil your Christmas. Best wishes

The season for burglary is now upon us, these ppl are either junkies or organised gangs.

Many ppl fail to be extra vigilant, and pay no mind to subtle changes in the locale.

eg:

Men in high vis suits
Cars with women in on the phone (common tactic)
Dog walkers you dont recognise
Increase in door to door sales personel (bogus)

These ppl watch and study you, they will seldom go for an occupied house, so wait for your daily routine to be so versed, that they can saunter in and raid.

New builds are the Waitrose for thieves! As are houses with big fences/gates that act as an ironic source of privacy for them.

I grew up on an estate where neighbours were in these gangs, and would openly talk about the tactics etc.

Key is to be vigilant at certain times of the year! It sounds extreme but they make the effort to rob u, so u match it by being alert.

Sorry to hear that u experienced this, but its important u take note, because these creatures are not stupid and have no conscience.

Have u got a house alarm?

I have had (thankfully more minor) versions of this story happen twice to me, and each time the real frustration was wanting to hit back at the b'stards who did it and not being able to

Its the other side of the (possibly legitimate) argument that putting people 'inside' achieves nothing - at the time I'd have voted for cutting both their hands off if they'd been caught.

Oh, a piece of advice for anyone on here.

Have a look into getting security tracking apps on your laptops, smartphones or tablets whatever.

There are loads for your phones which are as cheap as £1 a year, that mean if it's stolen you can track where it is, lock it, wipe it, even sound an alarm or take photos.

For laptops, its a bit more expensive about £40 for a year, but if it's robbed you can track it's location.

If you've ever had a phone or laptop robbed, then with this software you'd be able to get them back and catch the criminals.

Shocking. Hope these people get karma.

Bizarre to read this because I returned home tonight from work and found the front gate and door wide open. Fearing the worst I quickly looked around the lounge to find everything intact and in place.

Seems my Mrs had left the door open for 4.5 hours when leaving the house earlier in the day. This is NOT the first time!!!

Having worked in ghe safety field a lot of anti crime measures are more to fool you than put of criminals unforfunately.

What i mean is buying property marking pens gives you a sense of relief but police stations dont have the reading equipment in the main. also stuff gets sold at car boots etc and police wont buy portable lights to read what is being sold as generally insurance takes care of losses so no one gives a chit about the stuff its the violation of space etc that gets people

Also a lot of the doors and windows these days are sild as secure by design and having multiple locks etc but often are just strips and easily gotten into. In the past with wooden doors peeople would put bolts and what not on and that was safer than now

Safer by design often leads yo people not being as careful. A false sense of security.

Research actually showed us that a lot of money spent or given in grants for reducing burglary etc could be saved by simply giving people dogs. As that would make houses more securer. Obviously a certain type of dog but even a little pooch barking puts burglars off

Pedigree dogs invite burglars
