Good article on Howe

The man behind Bournemouth's success:

I don't mean Howe was lucky, rather Bournemouth were lucky to appoint someone who turned out to be decent.

a key thing is the relationship he has with his chairman

Agree with that Sol, but then again the prep was done and they had the sense to promote.

If only Leeds had done that with Giles.

There was no sense involved in it. He was cheap and they were skint.

Whatever the circumstance, they've got themselves a seemingly decent manager. Would he be successful elsewhere (i.e. with us?). Purely hypothetical - or would he just get eaten up by the machine which is LUFC?!?!?

They have a Russian money man who invests in the club, and allows the manager covers. to buy players his knowledge covers.

Howe has built a team with the right mix of hungry, talented and established players.

Sol, out of work managers are ten a penny, bournemouth had a choice and they made a good one.

VOF, he did very well at Burnley getting relegated club going back in the right direction.

I hope he stays at Bournemouth a while and gets some sustained success there.

Jonty ........ it'll be interesting to see just how far he can take Bournemouth - I suspect even Bournemouth fans would concede that. Respect to the guy, not sure how much bankrolling he gets in terms of signings, but you have to then build a team - he seems to do that.

They sacked Howe as reserve team coach, rehired him as youth team coach the next month, and a couple of months later appointed him caretaker, where they lost 2 out of 2, before appointing him as manager at the age of 31.

I fail to see the preparation / planning / foresight in that.

It worked out well, but to suggest it wasn't done on the hoof is ridiculous.

At that point in time they were a total shambles off the pitch:

You didn't strike me as a Guardian reader, Jonty.
