Heading the ball

We lost 90% of heading duels all over the park. The only player to consistently win headers was Morison. The headers we did win all went straight to the opposition. Set-pieces were a nightmare. We looked like conceding at every single free-kick or corner. More worryingly is the lack of commanding header in the centre back positions. Their "third" goal was a result of us not winning straight loopy headers that centre backs should be winning 100% of the time. It's not as though the opposition had a particularly big player up front today either. Playing with two small kids in midfield means we lose every header in the middle by default. Today this domination in the air led to a significant amount of added pressure on top of a number of chances it created for them,
Set-pieces

Spoken about this before, but more than ever today we saw a complete and utter disgrace in set-piece delivery. We either cross it into the first man, into the keepers hands or out for a goal kick. I think we had one decent cross from many efforts today. Just not good enough and instead of causing danger teams end up counter attacking us.
Decision making

Time and time again but this is often the difference in a good footballer and an average one. Examples today.
Crossing the ball into the box on a number of occasions with only one player in the box. Just gives away possession cheaply. Far better to win a throw in, free kick or corner and have something to build on.
With one player off the field injured and one player on the field injured we had two or three chances to find touch so we could make a substitute. Not us no, we tried to pass the ball out, lose it and put ourselves under massive pressure. It was extremely naive and extremely stupid.

Watching the fl show and looking at Bournemouth and Brentford etc, the all have the same thing in common. Width! Until we get this, we are hampering ourselves when we come up against wide formations.
R.e the article, I don't think it does, it highlights what went wrong yesterday. Our main problem ON THE PITCH, is a tactical one! Which asks the question Jonty and I ask, who is the decision maker?

Spot on LIW. We are very good at passing in our own half. 20 passes but it often ends up going back to the goalkeeper. In the final third where it counts we are shocking.

Yeah there was one particular occasion that stood out in the 2nd half when we did that, I was going mental and thought we were going to compound it by Silvestri kicking it long, although to be fair he found a pass out to the right back area.

Hey, how about we dont bother and actually sign a decent centre back instead.......sure thats what other teams do!
At this level its about fitness and coaching systems. No team has time to fani around with the basics!
