I was interested to hear some of the reviews of our potential transfer targets on Radio Leicester this evening. Fair to say that some reviews were more in-depth than others, but here's how they came across:
Mark Schwarzer:
Still not officially completed so we understand, but he was described by Brian Deane (!) as a model professional - someone who is incredibly fit and will still be hungry for success, someone who he reckoned would be coming here in order to play. I'm not so sure myself, but that'd be very hard on Hamer if it was true.
Shaun Maloney:
The cheerful Wigan reporter stated he believed Maloney was going somewhere, and that somewhere was likely to be Leicester. Maloney received a pretty glowing report from him, and he repeatedly described him as "the best ball-player in the side". It seems that he's someone who can create goals and chances, so on that basis could be a good addition to the squad. That said, the stark fact that we're looking to buy a 31-year-old winger who can't get into the Wigan side sets some alarm bells ringing.
Jermaine Defoe:
A reporter from Canada was on, who gave a polite but quietly damning assessment of Defoe. He said that he could still score goals and started well in Toronto, but had been plagued by all sorts of injuries and hadn't looked sharp for a long time. Basically, the message seemed to be to stay well clear, while the situation is just too close to a DJ Campbell situation for my liking.
Andrej Kramaric:
A surly Croatian reporter was interviewed last, but the message was clear: This is a no-brainer. If we can sign him then we should. The reporter mentioned that he likes to drop deep to collect the ball, to join midfield and attack. He also mentioned that he's not a target man and would be best used in a front 2. So on that basis, it sounds like he and Ulloa could complement each other very well.
None of this really focused on whether we were likely to sign these players or not, partly because the reporters could only really state what was already in the public domain, or repeat rumours. But some interesting assessments of the players - in some cases confirming what we already suspected.

As for Schwarzer I think its a good signing who could probably still do a job if needed but can hopefully teach Kasper and Hamer a few things.
We definitely need a defender but not sure Naughton is the man, been sent off a few times and not really set the world alight as much as I thought he might.

Kyle Naughton would be more than useful. Wouldn`t turn my nose up a him coming to Leicester.

Considering we could easily buy 4 new defenders and use those already here as back up I wonder when that area will have lots of speculation for new players?

Kyle Naughton is at least te start to that speculation True.
Would like him personally...

With regard to the recruitment of Schwarzer and how it might affect Messrs Schmeichel & in particular Hamer, I wonder whether the one with most to worry about isn't going to be Mike Stowell?
He doesn't seem to have had too much influence on Schmeichel's reluctance to deal with crosses.

I always rely on Wikipedia to get word from the horse's mouth about who has signed for us. They were especially accurate that day when Real Madrid sold us Kaka…
