Wigan agree deal for Austin and Pearce!

Both gone by the sounds of it. Can't say I'm too bothered about Pearce but Austin was showing potential the last few games.

Thoughts?

"But he was Portsmouths captain & Portsmouths player of the year"

This is all I heard when I mentioned Pearce not being good enough during pre-season.

Now everyone agrees he's not good enough and we have another defender already with the squad in Sol Bamba who has Championship experience and who is on paper a much better defender than the one we are shipping out.

That's a positive surely?

Austin staying. Another positive.

2 positives today with no new negatives = Good day.

Hmmm. Ignoring the title, the content just implies redfearn doesn't want him to leave. So, That's probably sealed the deal then.

When Colin signed Pearce I remember plenty
Banging on about "we shouldn't be signing
Players from the sinking ship that is Portsmouth."

He's done okay for us. Cooper is better
on the left than him. To suggest he's better
on the right, as a left footer, than Bellusci
suggests a stubborn, Blinkered view of MC's
signings. Fair enough.

Not too sorry to see Pearce go. Wigan are flush with McManaman money, so we probably got more from the deal than we might have done.

I remember seeing Bamba play for Leicester and being very impressed by him. He was very composed on the ball and not your traditional hoofer.

Personally I think Pearce has been a better defender than some are making out. Only time will tell (doesn't it always) if this bit of business works well for us.

Good luck to the lad - but do hope he gets relegated with Wigan, then that's one less spot we have to worry about .........

Whatever one thinks of Pearce, he was a player that gave his all for the club.
Thanks, Jason, and good luck for NEXT season!

BREAKING: The club can now confirm that Jason Pearce has today joined Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

Pearce made a total of 113 appearances for the club in a two & a half year stay and Leeds United would like to wish Jason all the best for the future

I saw on one writeup that the undisclosed fee is in the region of £1million for Pearce. I don't know how true that is but if it's in that area I think it's good business.
