Roberts at left back, finished off the season ok and deserves his spot. Would like to see them bring in a full back with two feet, able to play right and left. I like the fact that we are not getting any 30 plus year olds, we are slowly building a squad filled with potential, in my opinion. Just hope we are luckier with injuries and the players are given the confidence to play.

My forts milwf 4 wot thay arr worf is:

Worry, why must I make myself worry.

I agree Milftser we're looking at a 4-3-3 possibly a 4-1-2-3 a la Swansea.

I'm not quite seeing how the jigsaw puzzle fits at the moment though unless Clough believes we can be dynamic enough without a hold up man up top. At the moment with the current squad and inuries: Green, Barker I think we could be looking at opening season:

...........................Fielding..........................
B'ford...........Shackell............Addison.........Roberts
.........................New Signing........................
.....................Bailey...........Bryson..................
........Tyson..........S Davies............Ward.........

I think Pearson will be opted in for away games or when we're trying to go defensive (ie. when we lose). Bryson has always played centre left midfield not sure how he'd fair on the right. Which leads me to believe we'll be opting for another central midfielder either loan or possibly go in for Eustace again. B Davies/S Davies/Pearson could play in the central three if we played a 4-2-1-3 with Bailey and Bryson sitting deeper. If Pearson does play in the front 3 I could see Ward switching to the right and Pearson on the left. Steve Davies I have a feeling if he can stay fit might actually have a good season. I would see the top 3 being pretty fluid and a lot of movement in an ideal world.

My concerns with this system would be vulnerability down the flanks; it requires a lot of good passing - looking at our defence if Addison or Leacock aren't playing we don't really have a Maldini that can keep the ball moving when it is passed back. It also works best when pressing hard we need a quick defender in case we get caught playing too high a defensive line (maybe Robinson is being groomed for CB ) Up front I think we have no proven goalscorers, and in the middle none of them are really goalscoring midfielders. Maguire I think could be good given the right coaching not sure how he'll fit into a front three; maybe replacing S Davies or Tyson.

I'd like to see us get cover for a full back position the league 2 special would work for me Milfster; I wouldn't mind us getting Eustace and up top I ask for too much but someone with pace; finishing ability and able to hold the ball up - in our price range not sure about this one yet.

If we were playing today and our rumoured signings were here i'd go

.............................Fielding.........................
Brayford......Shackell......Addison......Roberts.....
..........................Bailey...................................
..........................................Bryson..................
...........................S Davies.............................
.....Tyson..............................................Ward
...............................Maguire...........................

Ball I think potentially could be a good hold up player but we'll give Maguire first dibs, all out attack no need to apologise

If we are to be succesful this season it'll require some exisitng players having breakthrough seasons cometh the hour cometh the Steven Davies, Miles Addison, James Bailey this is your destiny, carpe dium, mess with the bull you get the horns etc etc.

Good to be back amongst beautiful people chaps

Bryson over his career has played all across the midifeld and has spells at LB in his youth development.

He is a hard hitting strong tackling midfield porridge and could easily play the back 4 cover.

Agree with wellies I feel we are going to play a 4-3-3, 4-3-2-1, or 4-3-1-2, which ever will leave us some what open.

To be fair although fun its pretty much academic until we see all the signings in a near completion.

Tnx for the Bryson update Dru that is good that he might be able to cover left back; seems like he favours the left though shame Greene-y's injured for the start of the season

See Ipswich are in for Chopra for a million ... worth a punt possibly???

Wellies: Where's Barker in your line-up!?

---------------------------- Fielding -----------------------------

- Brayford --- Leacock --- Barker --- Anderson --- Roberts -

---------------- Bailey ----------------- Addison ----------------

-- Green -------------------- Davies ------------------- Ward --

I seriously think this formation and chosen personnel could do a serious job (with the exception of Gareth Roberts - we need another left back in the squad).

Providing a few players can keep injury-free obviously! It wouldn't neccesarily be a flat 5 at the back. The idea is for Brayford to push up a fair amount, and for Roberts (or another LB) to do so every so often when it looks as though our attack is definitely on to something.

Piccolo I'm asuming Barker won't be fit at the beginning of the season. TreeBurning I hoped last year we would experiment with Leacock as an attacking sweeper just in front of the CB's a la Busquets for Barcelona (only Leacock would be better) 3 Centre backs usually struggles against a 4-5-1 as you have 3 players on one man, also struggles against a 4-3-3 if opposition full backs play well on the counter attack. Maybe worth a pre-season dabble though to see how it shapes up I think with only Bailey and Addison in the centre though we'd get done for pace. What would be the worst formation we could come up with without playing players completely out of position?? Answers on a postcared please.
