I am not suggesting that it is a certainty. There are plenty of ambiguities especially involving cases where the accused is of similar age.

My point was simply that the police are going to be pretty sure of their grounds when they start arresting a 27 year old premier league footballer. The police know that the blow back undermines their institution. That decision is not taken lightly.

Oh I agree. I've seen a rape investigation take years before charges are brought. I know what a rape case takes.

But innocent until proven guilty. My point is that you should make no judgement until someone has had a fair trial, regardless of that. It's the cornerstone of a civilised society.

Britain has the highest number of sexually active 15 year olds in the whole of Europe as well as one of the highest ages of consent in Europe.

In Spain the age of consent is 12, and most countries are about 14. Only Ireland, UK and Germany are 16+.It is time we changed the law to avoid such unnecessary situations. Technically it is rape if a boy aged 16 years and one day sleeps with a girl who is 15 years and 364 days old - absurd.

I guess the line has to be drawn somewhere.

We could legalise everything and be the only country ever to have a 0% crime rate.

Someone educate me here: is it criminal for a, say 14 yr old boy to have sexual relations with a girl of the same age?

By the book its a crime however cases are rarely prosecuted. And that was my point.

This is a 27 year old sleeping with 15 year old. Doesn't that striker anyone as odd?
