Massimo Cellino: Italian set to return to Leeds United in May

Former Leeds United president Massimo Cellino is to return to the club at the end of the season.
The Football League disqualified him from running of the Championship club until 10 April in January.
He decided to step away from the club last month in order to clear his name.
However, the Football League have now said that they have "settled the outstanding disciplinary proceedings" against Cellino and the club and he can return from 3 May.

Interesting comment that the FL have "settled the outstanding disciplinary proceedings"

What do you make of that?

Yeah Jonty - I think that MC is learning from the process of dealing with the FL. He realises perhaps that he needs to distance himself from the club while pursuing them.

MC didn't give the FL the info they wanted (in my opinion he could have, but had a technicality that he could use to delay it).

The situation that this created sets a precedent as far as I'm aware (not the 'run of the mill' misconduct charge) and so the FL were free to impose a punishment fitting the 'crime'. I still think that the ban extension is trivial considering that MC only has to stay out of the picture for 24 days longer.

In addition, if his lawyers have told him that he needs to be disconnected from the club to pursue the case against the FL, he may well have already decided to sit in the background for the (longer) duration of the case anyway - in which case the 24 day ban is irrelevant.

My feeling is that MC will keep his distance from the club until his case against the FL is settled. This may well take much longer than his current ban lasts.

I would argue that his arguments are always based on fact.

But each to their own.

You may notice I sometimes agree with his view.

I just feel in re Cellino he has an agenda and whatever you or anyone else says doesn't matter. Except if you take his point.

Yeah Eric - I find myself agreeing with you more often than with Jonty in recent times!

I always try to take a non-biased viewpoint, but we are all prone to make our minds up about things. It's sad when people become entrenched in a particular opinion against all reason, but it happens and we can all get stuck there from time to time!

I will always hold my hand up if I'm wrong. Some people avoid that at all costs, but I see it as a sign of strength and flexibility.

39, the hearing with FA could take a very long time according to their criteria, will be interesting to see if Cellino comes back straight away after the 24 days.

I don't think there is anything to stop him doing that AND take the FA route.

Yes - the proof either way will be what he does in May.

I hope you're right about him being able to come back in to the club as well as pursue the FA route. All of this lurking in the background isn't a healthy state of affairs for the club. We need to just be a football club with an owner and focus on the team for once.

I know that MC came with baggage, reputation and chaos in his wake, but the FL are choosing to ignore the fact that they aren't helping the situation by applying their rules so stringently. Their rules are to stop member clubs being damaged by owners with criminal intentions. I don't see MC's Italian tax case causing any damage to the club other than what is being subsequently caused by the FL's interference with our ownership.

I would have a completely different opinion if there was any sniff of a report of MC milking the club or not trying to act in its best interests.

Given Ken Bates' love of getting LUFC to fund his numerous frivolous court cases, I find it a positive that MC is distancing himself from the club whilst perusing a private enquiry into the FL's actions.

Anyhow, I'd better sign-off for now and get some work done otherwise I'll have to sack myself!

39, the FL ARE trying to help the situation in their view, but trying to prevent an owner with a lengthy track record of financial business crime running a club in their competitions.

As for MC milking the club, he has added multiple millions of pounds of debt to the club, whilst Ross money has suddenly been forgotten about.

Lengthy track record of business crime?

Can't be doing with Cellino, but the mess is worse. Looking forward to it be cleared up and put to bed.
Let's hope.
