Flat pitches in England

Two tests and barring an unusual collapse of SL bats in previous test, it seems pitches in England are getting flatter. Scores of 486, 479, 335/7 and 127/3 in recently concluded test suggest so. Please comment.

it may seem that way, and if the third had been played at taunton or the oval it might have completed the set of flattest pitches in english cricket.

however, let's not forget that swalec has always been flat, so the high scores there were no suprise. Lords was. I've never thought of lords as a particularly flat pitch. it is true that there was about a day missed through rain, so the Lords pitch was really a day 4 pitch and so was not spinning as much as it might have done had there not been rain, although it doesn't spin much anyway.

The fact is that the first test was on a known falt pitch, and the second test was rain affected, so you cannot conclude just from these 2 tests that English pitches are getting flatter.

According to wums, Only subcontinent pitches can be described as flat!!!

sub continent pitches are a differrent kind of flat. whereas lords and cardiff both had some bounce (not all that much at cardiff i grant you), but little spin, subcontinent pitches are slow and low, with plenty of spin. both equally good for batting, but different. as an ameteur batsmen, i know i prefer to bat on low bounce pitches (less chance of any decent bouncers!)

The lords pitch was complete rubbish very little in it for seamers and absolutely nothing in it for the spinners. I dont like the apparent desire for games to last 5 days, it can make the game boring.

If theres a little bit of encouragement for the bowlers in a pitch then its a test of the batsman and if they're good enough the match will last into the fifth day and with the chance of a result. This pitch never offered the chance of a result and the game was generally poor.

The English are killing the test cricket with all those flat feather beds and importing South Africans.

The 3rd Test is at The Rose Bowl and as it is their 1st one I will be very surprised if this isn't a top one for batsman as well.

The last thing they will want is one finishing early (before the 5th day or almost over by then).

My view on the ideal test wicket is one that starts with the pace of Perth or The Oval in the 80's and finishes with the spin of Sidney or what Old Trafford can be like.

England should seriously think of making sporting pitches. These boring flat tracks are really killing test cricket. It seems ECB is trying to beef up players batting averages.

Flat wickets are now the norm everywhere. Thankfully India and SA produce atleast one wicket in their home test series which would aid pace bowlers.
