the home straight

as we reach the last 6 games, the championship is wide open. There are, theoretically, 8 teams who can make the playoffs. There is a bit of a gap between Watford in 4th (73 points) and Brentford in 5th (69 points) but then only a one point gap down to Wolves in 8th. So, us Boro fans are still keeping all options open. 75 points would seem to suggest a playoff berth but a couple of defeats could soon change that.

Can Monday make things a little clearer? If Watford knock off Boro then it could be about turn at the top. Defeat could push Boro down to 4th. A win would be nice though. You would be confident that Bournemouth can knock off Birmingham while Norwich should have too much for Wednesday.

Forest still have a chance of the playoffs but defeat to Brentford would probably end their season. Derby visit a desperate Wigan so points will be difficult to come by there. Ipswich and Huddersfield. Who knows! You would expect a win for Wolves but Leeds can turn it on every now and then.

Do Blackburn still figure. They may be more concerned about F.A. Cup glory!

As expected, the top 8 changed on Monday. Bournemouth now command top spot - poisoned chalice?

We will find out on Friday night where Brighton pit their wits against the leaders. Brighton are safe and a win for Bournemouth will open up a big gap. Norwich and Watford both have away games on Saturday from which they would expect to get some kind of a return.

After being taken to the cleaners by Watford on Monday Boro need 3 points at home against Rotherham. If not both the gap to 2nd may become too much.

Wolves and Derby are still poised. Brentford will attempt to keep Derby honest while Ipswich would hope to keep in touch against relegated Blackpool.

With more matches to come on Tuesday the picture should become a bit clearer. Who will blink first?

Oh, okay. Things seem to have settled down. An important 6 points for all top 4. I am expecting Bournemouth to go on with the job from here. Their last 3 games are not too taxing.

Based on the last weekend you would also expect Watford to be aiming for a maximum. Watford are tied on points with Norwich who have a one better goal advantage. Friday's clash between Norwich and Boro should be significant. Whoever loses (or draws) can look forward to the playoffs.

Derby and Ipswich are in the box seats for the playoffs but Brentford and Wolves are still in with a strong chance. Again, the slightest slip opens doors (or closes them).
