Black Managers......

http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/31970841

So, is football failing black managers? Not in my opinion. I believe it's a simple case of stats telling the wrong story. Reading between the lines, the suggestion is that clubs throughout Britain are going out of their way not to hire black managers. I find this impossible to believe, I just don't think that institutional racial discrimination exists to that scale in football today.

Could it just be that these people are not good enough to make it as managers, and they just happen to be black? I'd be interested to know what the ratio's of unemployed black managers is compared to white managers, compared to the ratio of black to white persons in the general population.....

Again I make this point. There is discrimination in the employment market for BMEs. More than enough evidence.

Why do people think football is any different?

It doesn't eliminate discrimination, it just changes the targets of it.

That's not what it appears to have done in America, where it's largely regarded as a success.

How do you know it discriminates against whites, if it doesn't oblige anybody to employ a black coach? How does it do this?

Are you arguing that it is discrimination against whites to implement a measure that gets rid of preferential treatment for whites?

I know, you think it's some Liverpool thing

Ok, I'll take your word for it.
So leaving that aside, what is the downside of the Rooney rule?

It tries to fix historical discrimination. I do not support it but sitting down with your fingers in your ears pretending it does not exist is silly

Careful how you say that, Frenchie.

Don't like the Guardian, myself. Can't remember the last time I read it (then again, don't very often buy a newspaper at all. I can afford bog paper).

I'm all for the Rooney Rule, not because I think it will suddenly make managers better because they have black skin but because it will stop people asking for it and thinking it will improve matters.

It will in my opinion continue only this time it will be all this black managers interviewed but not getting the job.

In time there will be some black managers who are good at the job and this will all stop. Unfortunately that's going to take time as percentages increase.
