How many points...

... do you think we will need to stay up? Have heard lots of numbers (ranging from 34 to 39) which keep going up!
It's going to be a stressful few weeks!

Yeh 2 wins should do it, 37 regardless of who they are against.

Actually TB if we have got 6 points by 3pm Sat I would still like to wait until 5pm and hope Southampton have won at Sunderland (despite what i have said above)

The hull result concerns me. I wasn't expecting that and I'm hoping their tough run takes its toll. What encourages me is that Sunderland are garbage

Any kind of 2 wins will be enough. That puts us on 37. Even if Sunderland beat us they need to find 5 points * from their other games

* 4 points if they can gain an 8 goal swing too

a win and a draw will probably be enough if one of those results is from sunderland. It will leave sunderland still needing the same amount of points ( 5 or 4) from their other games

BlackStarr - Their win at Palace surprised me more than their win at home to Liverpool. However, I don't think they'll win at home to Arsenal at the weekend so if we beat Newcastle we should be able to catch up to them again (or at least get within a point).

Even so, I think the last two results have put Hull as good as safe. They will beat Burnley at home in a couple of weeks, and they'll get at least a point total from their other three matches against Arsenal (H), Man Utd (H) and Tottenham (A). I can't see both us and Sunderland catching that. Villa and Newcastle have work to do but have some nice-looking fixtures - both are yet to play West Ham at home, for instance.

Sunderland look like the key. From their point of view, they'll be targeting a win against us (almost imperative), a win from one of Southampton at home and Everton away, a draw from the other and a draw from one of Arsenal away and Chelsea away. That would give them 8 points, meaning we'd need to get 7 from Chelsea at home, QPR at home, Newcastle at home and Southampton at home. Particularly if we get nothing from tonight, that's a tough ask. Howeve, whether Sunderland are capable of that is hard to tell.

I don't think it's particularly helpful that so many issues are sorted. No incentive to play for the title or the Champions League. We play Sunderland, Newcastle and QPR who all have much to play for.

Even Southampton might want to secure a spot in the Europa League, whereas nobody else would be bothered.

True, but Sunderland are also playing teams with something to play for. Southampton or the same reason; Arsenal will want to secure 2nd in the league (so they don't have to go through CL qualifying as much as anything), Chelsea won't want the anticlimax of being beaten on the last day before lifting the trophy in front of their home fans, then there's us. Meanwhile, if we're 4 or more points in front of them then QPR may well have nothing to play for on the last day.

Mourinho will shut up shop on the last day and play out a 0-0....I'm pretty convinced Sunderland will get a point from Chelsea who just won't want to lose on the last day.

I'm actually hoping he goes for a similar tactic tonight!
