Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ideal DM choice

As much as I would love to see an established DM at Arsenal I do think Coquelins contribution last season will be for nothing. Rumours circulating is that we have made an enquiry for Gents young Serbian Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. He is not a house hold name but I have seen a couple of games he played and looks good. he is young (20) and with Coq as No 1 DM he will not dispose The Coq straight away.

Will be cheaper then the Vidals, Morgan Schneiderlin and William Carvalho of the world....mind you I would love Carvalho at Arsenal.

Would be a good peice of business if we get Savic.

Dunno why I need to but "Donkey" is regarding his lack of ace.

Viviano's Debut

Far too early in Coq’s AFC career to start comparing him with others (for a long term solution anyway).

This time last year Arsenal were trying to offload him.

In regard to Carvalho he has been scouted by most of Europe’s elite over the last couple of years, and he is certainly more than a ‘flash in the pan’ as you have described.

Coquelin was consistently considered a future starter until his Freiburg loan. Up until that point he was progressing very well and impressed in every cameo he made for us. After his Freiburg loan he continued progressing.

It's not like he came out of nowhere.

Exactly. Being played out of position by a manager that doesn't favour you wasn't exactly.

Arsene's gripe with him was he was too interested with the flashier side of the game. The runs, dribbling and skill moves when he was sure he was more Yaya toure than Gilberto.

Outgrew that. All good.

And why the fack won't I compare him with others. Nasri was good for less time and you all blew your tops when we sold him for a profit.

If ANY player is good for half a season, it's no longer a purple patch. It's just quality.

Folks on here said similar stuff about Kos, Ramsey, Song.

Quit valuing performances for other teams in shiite leagues over performances for your team in a superior league.

Injury allowing, I fully expect Coq to be a France starter at the coming Euro Championship.

Wasn't impressed with Carvalho in the European under -21 games I saw recently.
Question marks about his stamina and pace.
Don't want him at Arsenal.

Maybe you were watching a different competition?

Saw him against Italy and Sweden and can only agree with ubad.
In both games Carvalho demonstrated that distribution was his greatest asset. Unfortunately, some key elements essential for a ball winning MF were conspicuously lacking in his game.
He is not particularly mobile and does not compensate that with sound positional sense. Meaning he does not cover his area of responsibility and misses a big part of the challenges he should make because he simply is not where he is needed.
He is not particularly strong in the tackle in the 50-50s he manages not to miss - surprisingly, he looks quite feeble for his build.

I have no idea why Carvalho was given this individual award. Berardi was head and shoulders above almost everyone in the tournament ability wise.

Same reason Messi was given the award at the recent World Cup.
Bernardo Silva, Ivan Cavaleiro and Joao Mario were all far more influential for Portugal (and better than Berardi who was a massive disappointment for me.)

Isn’t Berardi a winger/attacking player? Not really an appropriate comparison to Carvalho.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting at 23, Carvalho is the finished article. However he certainly would offer more of a challenge to Coq for a place in the side than either Arteta or Flamini in the short and long term.

I know Steve Rowley has had him watched extensively over the last couple of years but would be surprised if AW now bid for him. Especially given he could have signed him previously, and considerably less than his current market value.
