Rooney To MLS.

Manchester United striker says he is considering move to America at the end of his Old Trafford contract

Wayne Rooney has admitted he will consider following Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard by moving to the MLS at the end of his Manchester United career.

Gerrard and Lampard are both starting their careers in the States with LA Galaxy and New York City respectively after enjoying illustrious careers in the Premier League.

The pair's move to the US has given the MLS its biggest boost since David Beckham's decision to leave Real Madrid for LA Galaxy.

And Rooney, in Seattle ahead of United's pre-season friendly against Mexican outfit Club America on Friday night, admits he is open to a similar move Stateside when he calls time on his Old Trafford career.

"I'm obviously concentrating on Manchester United," Rooney told the Seattle Times. "When that time comes, that (MLS) will be something that I will think about.

"I'll sit down with my wife and children and decide if it would be right for for me."

Rooney and United will face MLS opposition next Tuesday when Louis van Gaal's team tackle San Jose Earthquakes in California.

I just think if you are top at the end of the season you deserve to be champions. If you aren't good enough to be top then well that's just tough, that's how a league system works.

But it's unlikely to change anyway so it is what it is.

Forza, if they did it like that would that just mean they would play all their away games against the teams from the other conference at once?

It's a lot more understandable having a play off in American sports because it's such a big country. But look at the facking Belgian league and how they decide the champions, it's ridiculous.

Welbeck mainly played with Rooney up front for one season mainly, what's your excuse for all the other seasons?

Also his high scoring season with Berba certainly included more game time up front at the goal getter than most of his other seasons at United, unsurprisingly one of his best goal returns for us as well....

That's a shock right, play a player as the main goal getter and he gets more goals!

But he also played behind Berba a lot that season as well.

The season Berba was top scorer that was mainly down to caning a few teams and Rooney being injured for a bit.

I think once he came back from injury and Berba started getting dropped for Hernandez he was our top scorer for the remainder of the season.

Then we signed RVP and clearly became the main man. By the time Moyes came in and started pandering to Rooney his decline was so bad that making him the main man wasn't going to see him score bucket loads.

By argument is about Rooney's position anyway. Just because he's not playing as a cf doesn't mean he's not being set up to score, he just goes through very hot and cold streaks of goal scoring form - both within a season and in terms of season on season, well less so now as he doesn't have hot seasons of goal scoring form.

Yes but let's be reasonable and actually compare his return to people playing similar positions, yes he should get goals from where he usually plays and he does, a good number for the position, criticising him using a comparison to a number 9 like Benteke and saying he isnt as good because of the stats is just silly.

If you are going to compare him use players from similar positions otherwise I may as well just compare his record to an attacking midfielders and say look how good it is.

I didn't mention Benteke.

---------------

I may be well late in joining the conversation but is still have to totally disagree with the OP on this assertion.

USA internationals opting to leave decent european clubs and play in MLS has given the league it's biggest boost.

Having the country's biggest stars actually play in MLS and be the face of their teams is more inspirational than a mid 30s end of career euro signing

I didn't say you did Dazza but you disagreed with (or replied to) my original rant which was centred around that point I was making in that last post, the mention of Benteke wasn't aimed at you.

Manfrom, I'd disagree on the assumption they are talking about a boost in interest/popularity rather than a boost in ability.
