I would hope that Clement gets the final say on whether he wants the player or not. The perfect scenario is Paul Clement telling Chris Evans the type of player he wants...Evans going away...Comes back to Clement with a shortlist of possibles...Clement picking which one...Evans takes the players name chosen by Clement to Big Sam...Big Sam then goes To Mighty Mel...Mighty Mel delivers player to Moor Farm...

Your board seem to be taking a big big gamble, Shackle is only there for the money. You have bought him on the strength of previous performances instead of looking to develop your own hungry young talent.

Your board are taking a leaf out of the 'Fawaz Manual Of Football Club Management'. It doesn't work, ourselves Leeds and plenty of others [QPR] bear testament to exactly where this policy will take you.

Think about this, a three year contract for a thirty one year old? huh really? for more money than he was on at Burnley, who were obviously paying him Prem wages?

You will get a season out of him if your lucky, then his disciplinary record will deteriorate with red cards and injuries etc. Still drawing the cash though and you lot will be asked to pay for this through £35 -£40 admission prices.

Of Derby's big money signings in the last two seasons are were under 25, only shackall doesnt meet this criteria because we needed an experienced leader at the back

IMO Shackall is the best CD in this division, obviously fans of other clubs will say no hes not ours is better blah blah but my opinion would have stood if he'd still been at Burnley this season

Also not a gamble at all as we got this!! The bloke who engraves the trophy has already put the D on it

Well that's Igor and now bushy baby both saying 'I got this' !

Your ignoring the fact's, this is just like Billy [remember him?] buying Wilson from Celtic. Makes stupid fouls in ridiculous parts of the pitch, gets sent off, plays 20 games a season. Shackle is 31 already!

Phew! for a minute there i thought we'd bought him to put in the reserves as Ryan Shottons back up.

We have bought him on the basis of a strong season with DCFC, followed by 2 stronger seasons with Burnley (one of which in the prem) of which i think he has only missed one game and has a fairly good discplinary record.

£3m?? Seems a lot but when you sign a player with the intention of making £100m by gaining promotion, then some gambles have to be taken.

If Boro pay £15m for Jordan Rhodes it will put the Shackell transfer into perspective.

Morning,

Great to see Shacks back, I hope it's not for the reported 3 million . Some fans have said they don't mind how much we've spent to get him here others are a little more pessimistic about the spending.

We need to make sure we have learned our lessons from yesteryear and buying a blend of potential and experience ...that will be able to do it the next level up , should we be promoted .

The signings Of Baird, Bent, Shacks and possibly Carson are great but would they be able to do it in Premiership when reaching their mid thirties?

I do agree with the comments that it's a better feeling when a player emerges from the youth academy or a rough gem ( Russell , Bryson).

With regards to our player recruitment I believe Clement has possibly been signed as a coach, the players signed he coaches. I'm sure he will have a say in recruitment in the future but Bent, Ince, Baird, Carson are highly unlikely to be Clement's suggestions.

Yes, Clement is an unknown quantity at present, my main focus is on his tactics and how much of a change the first XI is to last season. I hope there are not too many changes, I think we just need slight adjustments and like the Barker and Shacks partnership I think Keogh and Shacks would be our best partnership and Keogh would thrive on an experienced defender alongside him.

Shackall never missed a game for Burnley last season or the season he was at Derby

Shackall played in the PL last season Wilson played in the SPL the season prior to Forest signing him

No comparison and 31 not old for a decent central defender whose pace has never been his game anyway, could easily have 4 years left in him

You see RFB, you can be coherent when you are sober although the alcohol must have kicked in when you reached the last sentence.
