Seen this debate popping up on other threads. People asking, are we better, are we worse, are we the same. Let's take a look at the first game of the last season.
Manager: Hockoday.
Goalkeeper: Silvestri
Defence: Warnock, Pearce, Wooton, Byram.
Midfield: Tonge, Austin, Murphy.
Forwards: Ajose, Doukara, Hunt.
This year...
Manager: Rosler
Goalkeeper: Silvestri
Defence: Byram, Bamba, Cooper, Taylor
Midfield: Cook, Mowatt, Adeyemi
Forwards: Antenucci, Wood, Erwin
Would you say we're better than last season?
I'd say so. Better manager, better defence, better midfield and better forwards.
As I said on another thread, not enough to get promoted, top 10 would be a good achievement.
But we have improved on last season, for the first time in four years.
This Year v Last Year

We have improved our team for the first time in four seasons.
Does nobody see this as a positive? That maybe we're starting to edge in the right direction?
15th to top 6 is a massive challenge in one year.

In terms of players and financial power, we simply can't compete with them.
------
Why not?
Are we not allowed to buy quality players?
Do we suddenly have smaller revenues than them?

We competed with the Derby's of this league and the Bournemouth's of this league last season.
It wasn't them that took all the points from us it was mainly teams lower down the league.
We need to beat all teams, we need to gain points off all of them. We were workshy last season and lacking in passion as a club.
I believe we will surpass what we did last season, the squad is better this season and the younger players more experienced than last season.
I think we'll have a couple of new faces before the end of the transfer window too.
I don't rate Morison, but if he stays I think he'll play in the first game. I think Wood could be a really good signing and the same with Erwin.
It's still the quality supply that we need.
I personally think we may get surprised before the transfer window closes and I wouldn't be surprised to see a decent signing.
All in all I am eagerly anticipating a great season of football.
MOT.

The biggest improvement on last year is the two people brought into the engine room, they are the ones that have to get the motor ticking over correctly and keep it ticking!..
A shame last year we had a tin pot mechanic that new the ins and outs off a Fiat 500, if only he'd had a bit off a clue how a Ferrari worked!..
Good he's been shipped back to Italy!.
As for our new mechanic's, here's hoping they get a better shot then Redder's did, I mean, it cant be as hard for them as it was for him!..
We'll see won't we?..
Things go a little out off shape and that'll say if things have improved or not!.

The improvement, if it exists, is minimal. Plus the fact we've been going so far backwards the last few seasons, means "improvement" isn't so hard to achieve given who we are.

Maybe it's better to approach the season with a positive attitude.
Who knows what will happen.
We might even win a few...

I agree with those who believe we are better than we were a year ago, noticeably so but not sure good enough to be in the top 20%, which is where we need to be.
