Middlesbro 85 (68:37) +31

Heard some optimistic suggestions that we have a better squad this season than the one that kicked off last season. Some disagree. Nobody is suggesting the squad is massively better yet some people ARE suggesting we can make the playoffs and even better!!
Well to make the playoffs we have to roughly turn 8 defeats into victories. Sounds easy? Well wins were hard to come by and rarely did we beat anyone by more than one goal often hanging on for wins. We would need to score in the region of 20-30 more goals than last season and conceding 5 goals less.
To make automatic promotion we would need to gain 34, yes THIRTY FOUR more points. 11 defeats into 11 wins and sneak a draw. To do this we would need to score approximately 40 (FORTY!!) more goals and concede 10 less.
Is our squad 34 pts and 50 goals better off than last season? - NO!
Is our squad 24 pts and 30 goals better off than last season ? - NO!
We can improve on our dire season but there are so many IFS.
We can improve
IF Uwe Rosler does a Mick McCarthy
IF Taylor, Byram, Cook, Mowatt all improve
IF one of Doukara, Bianchi, Sloth,Bellusci makes a big improvement
IF Cooper improves for the experience
IF Silvestri improves his command of the box
IF the new signings end up being useful
IF Wood bags 20+ goals
IF we use the loan market well
IF Cellino stays out of the way
IF Off-field stability remains
IF we get a surprise big signing
IF another kid comes through
You take clubs like Derby and Boro and the only IF they have is
IF our team gels.
The reality of improvement required

And yes it does. You want us all to agree with you and have terminal woe. I'd never get out of the house if I held your views. I'd sit looking at a baked bean can rocking to and fro whilst Leonard Cohen warbled away in the background.

And on a completely separate note. Your thread is here.

Thread is still missing and i can only access it via the link given on my "wheres my thread gone" thread.
My opinions are based on fact. When trying to analyse the close season speculation the facts available to one are historic.
History tells us that we have failed to land a winger in a few seasons.
History tells us that Cellino dosnt appear to care too much about wingers.
History tells us that Cellino dosnt spend much on players.
History tells us that Premiership players rarely drop from tier 1 to 2, and even rarer they come to Leeds.
Its not terminal woe. Its educated opinion based on factual truths that have occurred to predict the current/future. It keeps my feet firmly on the ground and prevents me from the impending disappointment thats going to hit you hard and knock your head from above the clouds. As LIW said......one season you will be right. .....just dont think it will be this season coming.

Oh.

oh........
and you can use the same historical facts to predict that Leeds are very unlikely to be promoted next season. Very rare a side that struggles in lower mid-table, can sign a handful of relatively cheap players and suddenlu turn into a good successful football team. It CAN happen but very very unlikely hence i keep my feet on the ground once more.

I'll wager Mr Revie and Mr Wikinson would think your system of thought a little bit silly.
In fact I reckon both would have laughed at your assumptions.
Daft.

Absolutely agree.
Strangely you may think but when i am actually involved personally in the game i am the most optimistic of players with as big a never die attitude you will ever hope to play with. As a player i was always optimistic of a good season and even when losing 0-6 i played my heart out in the hope of getting something out of the game be it pride.
As a manager, and if i was in charge of Leeds United this coming season i would be setting my target to be champions. No less would do.
but thats because i have a direct influence and am paid and others rely on me to get the best out of what i have. As a fan i dont need to do this.
I moan as i say because i care. I want change because change is needed. If i dont moan am i settling for what i see as second rate? I was the happiest supporter in the world in 1992. Maybe one day i will be again.

I think you'll find there was two happier than you.
When I played football I clogged f.... out of anything that moved...! Finesse was never my middle name, but then do you know anyone with such a silly middle name..? When I managed I got my team to within an inch (well perhaps a yard) of winning a game, but I soldiered on until I was sacked. P16 W1 L15 D0 For 5 Against 37 but do you know what, when I left they all applauded...! That's loyalty.
You don't know you're born.
