Swansea to subsidise away tickets

Swansea City are to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds this season subsidising fans' away tickets, ensuring that they'll never spend more than £22 on their seat.

Cynics will scoff and likely suggest it's the only way they can guarantee they fill their allocation. I say

Home games are pricey enough before factoring in eye-wateringly expensive away days. More of this please PL clubs

Great thing to do to ensure the fans are not priced out - Something I cannot see catching on despite the vast money in the game...

It's a good gesture but the whole scheme will cost them only 0.3% of their yearly turnover so hardly an amazing gesture. But still, it's a start. Would be amazing to see teams reduce prices.

Sadly the problem with FFP is that it needs ticket prices to be high for clubs to make money that is acceptable.

Just checked and last season it was Newcastle (travelling 8,200 miles), then Sunderland (8,050 miles), then Swansea (7,900 miles).

To put that in context, driving to Mumbai covers 7,100 miles according to Google Maps

And to think that all their away games are in another country.

Yes, I think I also read that Swansea fans travel the furthest over the course of the season.

Surely it could be argued that FFP, in aiming to push clubs into profit, potentially offers a better platform in the long term for clubs to reinvest in their fans.

The PL have allocated some cash to help home and away fans to each club. But you can only applaud Swansea and hope all other PL clubs would follow. It's expensive enough having a ST, the club just eased the burden for away fans and keeps the atmosphere going at home games. It's rubbish when only a few hindered away fans turn up.

This is brilliant.

You'd sure appreciate it if you regularly travelled to away games.

This is news?

Chelsea have subsidized away games for at least 4 seasons.

Really?

What discount do they offer to the away fan travelling to the bridge?

Correct me if I'm wrong but Chelsea have been subsidising three games to the tune of ten pounds (I believe they're extending to five games this season), as well as subsidising travel costs.

Not quite the same thing, is it? Especially when the owner could buy away tickets for all the fans for every game of the season without noticing a dint in his bank balance.
