Gettin round to the Witcher

Well eventually i have gotten the witcher (season pass edition) for £50 of the store that gives you all the DLC and expansions.

played a few hours last night and slayed the griffin and the wraith (noonwraith?) at the well.

What can I say first impressions. Frickin awesome, the setting and voice acting are just top notch for a game of this scale. This game has that polished feel about it that I had with Deus Ex Human revolution. Very detailed and in depth so many ways of doing the same thing differently.

I thought MGS had a great initial feel to it but nothing compared to this (shock!) i know im only just starting off but first impressions with this are better than i had with Skyrim.

Anything i should be particularly mindful off without spoiling anything for me. I know to only really focus on upgrading my witcher gear and horde everything ! Is it worth taking my time with and doing everything the first time (my approach to Elder Scrolls and fallout) or look to redo the game for the different endings or will that take up too much time, bear in mind i have MGS fallout out soon and also use up about 4 days of my week racing on P Cars!!

Cheers in advance guys

Early levels steal everything, making swords is often pretty difficult below level 10.

If you have the cash buy any Gwent cards, and do the missions, I have started to get into Gwent now (after 400ish hours) and I'm needing to go back to places to collect the cards, would have been much easier if I got them on the way round.

Don't feel the need to do all the mission during the main play through, you can come back after or do g+ (unlike blood borne)

Armor sets I only really started to get into around level 15, and the first few witcher things can't be updated (the uodateable sets are feline, griffin, wolven, and ursine)

Explore.

Easedrop and read books, they can also give details on quests and monsters

Pick flowers!

yup so far iv been hordeing all the plants, made about 3 potions and 2 oils. Upgraded my itcher chest armour, got one Gwent card from the 1st game that i won in the tutorial bit. I understand the game Gwent but looking thro it on the menu screen bit confued me (all the different area packs etc etc.) I didnt move outta the the first area (orchard wilds i think) till i had completed all the side quests I had, also took the contract to kill the demon at the well and messed her up good !. Havent stole anything at all (wasnt sure if karma would come into affect or that) reading the info on her made it very easy to deal with. magic trap, potion to boost my damage, spectre oil (i think) on the blade and she idnt take to long at all. What do the trophys of dead demons do exactly (i assume the do something!) Do i need to read the whole book or will hitting the read button then activate/update my quest with info that is in the book (like in elder scrolls) if you know what i mean ?

Cheers

The heads have stats on them and are found in the Inv screen, you attach them to the horse.

Also new skills need to be activated, that is put in the squares on the right of the screen, so even if you have points in them, if they arent on the right they wont work.

Dont be afraid to turn the level down or up, i put it on hard to start with, found the controls a little confusing after blood borne and kicked back to medium until i found it too easy and went back up.

You can read the stuff, or the witcher can read it and will automatically update the stuff, so after a while of reading i found i could just press the x button on like 10 books, it will say read, and the info will update when you come out the inv/map screen.

For recipes most the time they wont appear in the shop if you have them, but sometimes they will, if they do you will know as it does have the message "You have already read this book".

Buy all the recipes for the rune stones, and repair kits, you have a diablo3esque upgrade to the runestones. These are crafted by any blacksmith.

If you want more gwent details let me know as i basically ignored it in my first play through, but i am going back now and enjoying it.

cheers Simon ... if you ever need advice hitting an apex gimme a shout lol ! Yeah i noticed the head on the horse but didnt notice the stats on it in the menu's. Good to know about the books (i tend to read the main ones but side missions tend to skipped good to know its the same as this) kl kl good advice on what i should stick to buying in this game (i tend to try and buy nothing as in RPG's everything you find, craft or get as rewards will usually always be better than any vendor.

I had it on medium for about 10 mins but had to turn it up im playing it on 2nd hardest (dont wanna make it too long to play due to time constraints).

I also noticed with activating the skills to get the benefit of them. Good to know that i wasnt missing much. Its pretty much bog standard RPG strategy tbh. Thats a good thing as you have prob guessed with my Q & A's this aint my first RPG lol so a lot will be familiar (oh yeah meant to say this is my first Witcher game)

Final tip - buy Mandrake and Cheery Cordial (I think its these 2, check the recipe for white gull and other alchol) from the merchant you meet at Crows Perch just on the right hand side of the town gate, you wont notice it so much now but for later potions you need White Gull and there is another in the alcohol section. This is more of a time saver than a spoiler, although you can find the things with most Barkeepers this guy generally has the best supply.

Buying I would say just do for non weapon recipes, gwent cards, and horsey stuff - these things are either not in the world, or generally much slower than weapons/armor and weapon recipes

Yeh the fact you quickly dispatched the first couple of monsters in your first sitting did give it away a bit - enjoy my friend this is a wonderful game.

I started MGS V yesterday, what an intro.........might even say it is better than Half Lifes train ride!

hard to think of any intro that was better than the last of us, also for its time FF7 had a cracking intro to the game

The descent into Rapture was pretty amazing in BioShock.
