David Beckham PLC

If you ever wondered how Our Dave and his people totally own media institutions like the BBC here is a classic

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34353974

In light of Fergies revelation that he thinks that he only managed 4 world class players in his time at United, (Scholes, Giggsy, Ronny and Eric) David Beckham PLC have turned it around to make sure this story includes him.

The more I hear from this guy the more he annoys me. A good United player, playing in a great United team. That's all he was.

Lets hope the BBC show their world famous 'balance' and get around to interviewing every other player Fergie managed in his time that was also not included in the short list by tea-time.

Saf is wrong on this one. He had more than 4 world class players under his wing.

Yeh for that argument to be valid, you'd have to accept players like Keane, Schmeichel, Rio, Evra, Stam, RVN, RVP weren't world class for us. It's bollox mate.

"whose blaming the BBC? They have simply been sucked into Beckham PLC. "

You are by saying that. They've been sucked in to what is newsworthy, exactly as they should be.

It's almost like they're a news outlet or something, when you put it like that...

There is a massive area between world class and "A good united player".

well worked out. Dont you think Fergie is trying to tell you this

Firstly, SAF didn't actually say those 4 players were the only world class players... Secondly, SAF didn't claim Beckham was "a good player".

You are the person that doesn't seem to be able to communicate these subtle levels of footballing ability. Unless you actually do think Beckham is on par with the likes of Ji Sung?

My opinion on Beckham has changed down the years. He was absolutely top drawer for us from after the WC in 98 until around the time his foot fell off before the 02 WC. After that I felt he was on the wane. His performances for us in that final season seemed few and far between.

Once he'd left us I started feeling a bit of resentment towards him based on his England performances. IMO he wasn't justifying his place in the team, never mind being captain, never mind his status and profile being elevated higher than it deserved. I still feel this today that his reputation and the fawning over him is greater than his abilities ever were.

However a while ago I was looking on Youtube and came to appreciate he was a fantastic player for us during a magical period. I'd still have him as the 4th best player in our midfield of Beckham, Keane, Scholes and Giggs. Which is no criticism.

What a poor article. Firstly, David Beckham the player;

"A good United player, playing in a great United team. That's all he was."

If 85 goals and 170 assists in 390 games from a right midfielder is what makes a "good Utd player", then I wish we had a couple of those today.

In our treble season he managed something like 25 assists in the PL, that's ridiculous even by today's standards. He won EUFA midfielder of the year, twice, Utd player of the year, Madrid player of the year, make PFA team of the year 4 times and won Young layer of the year.

Then how good he was for England. We have him to thank for being in Euro 2004 and some great memories of him.

Then David Beckham the man:

So what if he uses PR to make himself a fortune? He seems to have brought his children up fantastically well and is an icon for British sport, a good one at that.

To be fair, he did. I'm not sure where the opinion has come from that he didn't seeing as the direct quote was in every paper and the interview itself on the bbc.
