He's played them like a fiddle!

MC was in London talking to investors on Monday!

He's used LFU to get the fans off his back and let the world know he's ready to sell to the highest bidder. They were never going to get exclusivity!

As someone said on LIW's thread - they talk too much.

But then they have to raise funds so the publicity generated for them was rewarded with more investors. Glad I abstained until I got the full picture.

Hopefully they can buy in and get on the board as a minor investor. I will put up for that if it looks likely.

...and for the record - not EVERYONE would be hostile to Red Bull!

See even you are making assumptions for the fans.

I'm making an assumption on what I know is a majority of the fans don't want.

Also, he may not have directly said it, but he was indicating Red Bull. Quotes always miss the question.

I've also just spoke with the exec and confirmed he isn't nor ever was involved with the exec.

Ok - he wasn't exec - but he was involved and was slagging off Leeds United fans.

Let's leave it there eh?

Involved? As I said he doesn't speak for LFU at all

But that's not the perception some (including me) have.

LFU supporters have slagged off those who dare question them and he is one of them.

He quite clearly doesn't represent them.

But your perception is your perception.

I think we've established that Sol. But he is an LFU supporter, has worked for them and did slag off other LUFC fans who dared to question LFU.

LFU's take on things:

"A review of the last ten days.

We have been talking to Massimo Cellino for a number of weeks now. This has allowed us to get an understanding of his personality and planning and, on occasion, influence his decisions. The increase in away ticket allocations was a point where we had to reveal the extent of our relationship and I’m pleased that an extra 1800 Leeds fans saw the 3-0 win over the weekend. Although as one of my Town supporting friends noted, I just put about £50,000 in the coffers of Huddersfield Town via the extra ticket sales – more than most Town fans would do in a lifetime.

After the Blackburn game and the chants of “Time To Go, Massimo” he had clearly had enough. He made this clear to the supporter group representatives when he joined the meeting we had organised to create a joint approach to the fixture change disruption.

Sharon Reid left that meeting to follow up directly with him and in a series of meetings that afternoon he came to us with the offer for LFU to buy the club (or at least the majority stake he controls) “at cost”. We agreed to this, but asked that we be allowed to involve one of the third parties we have been working with. He insisted that he would only sell to Leeds fans as this was to be his legacy. So we agreed to the deal.
This created a challenge since we are specifically structured to fund a minority position in support of a majority shareholder. His ‘at cost’ is at least £30m (the amount he has added to equity that is visible at Companies House), and there could be half as much again in hidden deals. This of course is entirely auditable and the exact figure would be clear in due diligence. Nevertheless, we had to find a way to re-structure to deliver at least three times as much, or walk away.

Over the weekend and into Monday the true strength of our Executive Board and the shadow network came into play. In an astonishing effort, we created a viable and credible plan to buy Leeds United and fund it going forward. In essence, the powers of legacy that LFU would have had over a majority shareholder were now passed directly to the Community Benefit Scheme (CBS), with LFU taking the role of an ultra-friendly majority shareholder.

This apparent improvement for the CBS does carry some considerable costs and risks. Not least, until we had absolute certainty that the deal was going ahead, we cannot raise capital and cannot risk wasting shareholder’s funds. Therefore, having called any bluff by producing a viable plan, we needed to smoke out any insincerity as soon as possible. This is why we so heavily pressed for exclusivity. I have got no doubt that we would most likely have completed a deal if Massimo had signed exclusivity.

On Wednesday he withdraw the offer, but in that short time our detailed announcement had had a seismic effect. Uniformly the reaction the high net worth and business community was positive – they recognised this as a professional and convincing plan. This has resulted in dozens of newly opened doors across potential investors, buyers and within the football community and authorities and media. Last night Sharon and I recorded a podcast with The Square Ball that provides a little more detail on the last ten days. It’s available for download later on today and we’ll share the link.

We are in substantially better position now than ten days ago. We have proved we can play at minority or majority level. Massimo is now out in the open and engaged in selling the club. Potential buyers have seen the appetite for fan ownership at Leeds, with the effect that “bad buyers” have been scared away or at least been forced to alter their plans, while “good buyers” have been encouraged to push on.

Finally, we have back to back wins…….coincidence? Well, yes actually!

The next steps for LFU are:
Revert to the minority position as the preferred route, but with renewed authority and a wider selection of possible partners.
Continue to build bridges with various authorities, potential bidders and high net worth Leeds fans. This includes being conciliatory with Massimo and not getting involved in any t[t for tat commenting.
Encourage a united fan base, because this is the power a third party will buy into.
Have a strategy for every scenario – be assured, this we already have.
In conclusion, as shareholders you can proud of the distance we have come since we launched the offer back in April. Encourage your friends and fellow Leeds fans to make these investments. We are the closest we’ve ever been to achieving our aim of fan ownership at Leeds United.

His 'good buyer bad buyer' statement leaves him wide open!

Maybe he is a good businessman but he needs to sack his PR team - if he has one.
