Feeling alone Herr Klopp

My heart really went out to Jurgen Klopp with his comments over the weekend about sections of the Liverpool supporters leaving early before the last rights were given condemning our team to another defeat against Palace.

A few months back we were all being told how a coach of Klopps stature would never consider taking on the job of reviving our fortunes. He was destined to take on Bayern, Arsenal etc etc........

But here he is at the club he has joined because he feels it's part of football folk lore. A club like his beloved Dortmund full of passion and desire to see the team achieve great things. Except it isn't really. In an amount enough to make Herr Klopp turn around in disbelief, only one goal behind fans are leaving the ground. Yes people he felt alone and he said as much. You would think that at the start of Klopps tenure bums would be on seats or standing shouting the team on. Not the case at all.

Now I'm aware that this seems to be accepted in our country and its fair to say that it happens at all the big clubs here, but it did get me thinking, is there a connection between a slightly less fervent Anfield and Liverpool's fall from grace?

In fact can that assumption be used for our general poor showing in European competions? Be it Chelsea, Arsenal or Utd.

We have been absolutely scathing on Rodgers, The Owners, The players and yet are we absolving the fans of any wrong doing in lack of support ? Could we be the ones to make a difference?

The irony more me is the team that derailed our revival is one that has the most fantastic support I have seen in the Premier League. Win lose or draw it's an absolute cauldron at Palace and the away support is just as strong.

I'd be interested to hear your views............

you don't have to have 8 pints and a pie/match programme to enjoy the game.

Highly unlikely. He supports Everton, so probably doesn't know much about football.

I was in the Kop last season and we had 3 business men in suits next to us. They didn't sing and actually sat down meaning they couldn't see half the game as everyone else was stood up. My mate asked them why they weren't singing and they said they didn't know the words of the songs.

I know it is a business now so you need fans from far and wide to make the club more profitable but I do believe that the local lads that paid £2 to get into the Kop in the 80's created a much better atmosphere than the businessmen and tourists that attend games nowadays.

It's a myth that working class people can't go to the match. A season ticket makes most grounds affordable,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Working full-time on the £6.31 hourly minimum wage would gross just £13,124 in a year. () That's about £1093 per month.

The cheapest season ticket, even at a club like Everton, is £544. How can anyone on that low income afford to pay half a months wages for a football ticket?

Football used to be for the poorest people. It's not anymore.

That's £28 a game over a season.

But if you want to go the football, you are not forced to watch 'expensive' PL teams. Go watch your local team or local lower league team. Not all working class people earn minimum wage, I would consider myself 'working class' but earn enough to have a ST

And also lets not forget Tax Credits, the way for the government to fund low paying employers.

I saw one woman on the news discussing how she would get by without her £1000 extra top up from the tax payer.

She had a big flat screen and a dog

But my point was trying to (at least partly) explain why atmospheres at PL teams are worse than they used to be!

You say you consider yourself working class, but are happy to say "if you can't afford it, tough go somewhere else!" Doesn't sound working class to me.

I firmly believe it's down to the more shouty members of society (the working class) not having the spare cash to go every week. This may not be the only reason, but it is a big one imo.

No, I never said tough. What I said is that you are not forced to go and watch 'expensive' premier league teams. I work hard each day for my cash, so yes I believe that I am working class.

If I couldn't afford to travel back and watch Everton I would go with my Mrs and watch Sheffield United.....Thats about £18 per game on a ST.
