Good riddance. The football community can think themselves lucky that all of this came to light before he won the FIFA Presidency, otherwise it would of been brushed under the carpet for 20 years like all of Blatts crimes.....

Fifa’s ethics watchdog wants the suspended Uefa president Michel Platini to be banned for life, according to his lawyer.
Platini and the Fifa president Sepp Blatter last week had appeals rejected against the decision by Fifa’s ethics committee in October to ban them both for 90 days while investigations into a £1.35m payment to the Frenchman continued.
Platini’s lawyer Thibaud d’Ales described Fifa’s alleged life ban demand as a “scandal" and “excessive". Blatter’s representatives refused to comment on whether the same request has been made against the Swiss official.
Fifa’s ethics committee announced on Monday that it had opened a case against Blatter and Platini and a decision is expected to be handed down next month. Until then Platini is forbidden to take part in the race to become Blatter’s successor as president of Fifa with the election scheduled for 26 February.
His suspension is due to expire in January but it is understood Fifa’s ethics committee is on track to make a decision on the facts of the case before Christmas, with both men facing the possibility of lengthy bans.
Blatter was accused by the Swiss attorney general of making a £1.35m payment to Platini weeks before he was re-elected as the Fifa president in 2011. Platini has argued the payment was for work carried out when he worked for Blatter as a special adviser between 1998 and 2002 but Blatter had told him at the time that Fifa could not afford to pay and he did not want to upset its wage structure.
It soon emerged that there was no written contract for the payment, with both sides arguing it was a “gentleman’s agreement". Blatter and Platini have denied wrongdoing.
Lifetime ban for Platini......

Platini : Let him have his trial. If there was clear dishonesty, and corruption, then theres no way out.
A great pity because he would have made a great leader of football. Miles ahead against the other options.
If the money was a payment for services, then i do not see it as that bad. None of us have access to the files and we know well how the media adores a victim to hound. Also in terms of the cash passed around, football wages and asset values for players this is not that staggering an amount.
Blatter I dislike on the grounds he used his remnant power, in the voting system to stay in, when it was clear that he had to go, unable to do the right thing and resign. Fight to the end. A new word in the dictionary, "Blatterism", "to Blatter" to demonstrate arrogance and self interest in the face of the overwhelming populace that wants you gone. To refuse to see the correct action, that would benefit the organisation one claims to love. Desperate hanging on to power even when untenable. Besides all the corrupt stuff that will surface, his entire being is so unfortunately unpleasant. Ulike Platini who has a certain charisma , warmth and appearance of being in control. I'm fairly certain these two hated each other in private.
Apologies for the lengthy explanation, but it was requested, and DA (Dev's advocacy needed an explanation.

What happens to all the money Fifa and eufa is sitting on if the top men go to prison.
Say Fifa was disbanded where does the money go?
I'm sure the Swiss bank that's holding it would be looking to ship it back to whom exactly?

It's actually a Charity. A charity that pays Platini £1.35m for a few months work. As for the Swiss and in particular, the Swiss banking industry, personally I think they are as bad as FIFA. They all deserve one another.

Tway. I'm sure there are plenty of viable candidates out there who are just as capable as Platini. It's such a closed shop that anyone who isn't already 'on the inside' hasn't stood a chance. Maybe now some genuine, honest candidates will now come forward, and get in on merit as oppose to how many people owe you favours.

FIFA and UEFA are businesses there to promote the beautiful game. The IFA sets the rules to football not FIFA so you can leave that alone. Put all football federations on a proper business footing with proper processes and audit trails and remove charitable status which is incredible given the money the thing generates. Is it really proper for a charity like FIFA to have an employee average pay roll of £250k in its head office? It isn't a cottage industry or a job for the boys nor should it be a job for life. Use paid consultants / experts / advisors where necessary. Then one by one, investigate every football federation one by one and oversee best practice changes or lose recognition. Job done.
