I wish we had an Eric Dier

First off i'm a Rangers and Spurs fan.

Basically I wish we had a player similar to Eric Dier.

If anyone has watched Spurs this season you'd see what a great job he's doing protecting the centre halves and also connecting the back and front.

Essentially he is a centre half but is playing in a holding midfield role. Now when Walker/Rose (fullbacks) push forward, he drops into a back 3. He also takes the ball off the centre halves/keeper and links the defence with the attack. He can play a direct long pass or keep it simple and give it to a more attack minded player.

Given Rangers defensive frailties this season I think it's exactly the type of player we should be after. A "normal" midfielder playing a deeper role won't always think about defence and can be caught out of position too easily if an attack breaks down.

Do any of you think the likes of Ball should be tried in this role as it can only benefit both teams? I'd only go for this option if we brought in another centre half rather than the holding midfielder.

I would certainly consider giving ball a few games in that role, esprcially if we dont sign that type of player.

He is probably as good or better than our other 2 cb'S and apparently has played DM plenty of times.

He also seems a decent lad, was helping out at a homeless shelter over the holidays.

I watch Sporting's game in Portugal and you could see the class the kid has when he came into the team....he'll only improve.
