Top managers

Out of curiosity when was the last time a top manager challenged themselves and took an obvious difficult Job
? Most of the so called mangers at the top always go to the clubs with the most money and with the best squad in the league, i just wondered when was the last time a top manager took over a lesser team and put their reputation on the line?

Has it been done and have they been successful?

The Barcelona team that Guardiola took over for the 2008 2009 season Was very much on the slide. It had just finished 3rd in the league behind Real and Valencia, 18 points off the top and 10 points off second. and had 1 trophy in the last 3 seasons ( not a huge drought but by Barca standards &helliphe then lost / got rid of Ronaldinho, Deco, Zambrotta, Edmilson & Thuram. He brought back Pique and brought in Alves, as well as promoting Busquets & Pedro.
That season Barcelona became the first Spanish team to win the Treble, missing ¾ of his first choice defence in the Champions League final ( Alves, Abidal and Marquez ) and playing with Yaya Toure as a CB.
So to reiterate from 18 points behind to winning the treble.
Some would say that's a hell of a challenge.

Klopp to Liverpool is the most recent.

Van Gaal to United? It's not just the size of a club that makes the job difficult.
