Raising the Titanic

John Williams and and his son Peter are planning to lift up the equivalent weight of the Titanic's hull. They aim to break a Guinness World record with an organised group challenge to lift the weight of the Titanic's hull in just one day.

The challenge on April 16, will take place at the Olympic Gym, Eccles, in Manchester, a well known gym in power-lifting circles and involve people from the Burnley area. "It sunk on April 15 but we are doing it on the 16 April. That was as close as we could. The Titanic's Hull weighed 24,360 tonnes. The challenge is to lift this in one day. "This huge task will need as many lifters as possible to complete.

"All we ask is come along and give at least one set of ten reps. You can give ten hours of reps or just the ten."

However, bacterium isolated from rust samples of the RMS Titanic appears to be accelerating the wreck's disintegration. The bacteria are eating the wreck's metal and leaving behind "rusticles," or icicle-like deposits of rust. The porous rusticles will eventually dissolve into fine powder. Rasing the Titanic is 99% impossible.

Could you lift the Titanic? Working at a depth of over two miles under the ocean, total weight 52,310 tons.

I remember when Guinness World records used to be interesting, now it's records like this one and the most blades of grass someone can lick while hopping on one leg, in the space of a minute.

Its a big change of direction for a bloke that usually does the soundtracks to big films.

Sorry but I simply don't care about this and I'm unclear why anybody else would...

Simple answer would be nobody could.

For a start at a depth of 3,800 metres the pressure of 380 atmospheres (approx 5550 psi) would crush you into a tiny little ball before you could even attempt to move (or even breathe)

A man can no more diminish Titanic's glory by refusing to worship it, than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word 'darkness' on the walls of his cell.
