Finances did not persuade Benzema to sign in the summer.

The best CF’s play for the elite sides, and purchasing one in January was never going to happen. The club probably could have thrown a large amount of money to acquire a CF but not one in anyway comparable to Benzema.

Yes but trying to sign Benema is almost like trying to sign Aguero. Not going to happen no matter how much money you have (to a degree).

True that ....you need a lot of luck and a special development in the club as well.

Exactly right! Sorry I didn't mention the fact that why would a player want to go to a smaller less successful club....

To be honest I was thinking more along the lines of Ighalo, Vardy and Lukaku. Their clubs would sell if the price is right (probably) and they would want to come to us (probably).

I should have written 'could' instead of 'would' or 'maximise our chances' (especially as we will ("conjecture" not get much of a look in when Pep comes over and Chelsea start playing properly.

We should have nailed it this season. Maybe we still can............

In the main, AW looks to the long term, and i don't think any of the players you have mentioned would have tempted AW.

Possibly Vardy - but believe other clubs were interested but were told no chance - at any price.

I would have taken Ighalo and Wanyama in January and I think both could have been bought for a combined £30-40m. Is it not worth spending that to win the league?

We signed Elnehy (sp)? And also a number of players returned from injury.

I would rather the club wait until the summer and can then concentrate in bringing in the right player(s) – hopefully.
