A fully functioning replica of RMS Titanic is set to launch in 2018.
While it will look virtually identical to the 1912 cruise ship, it will be four metres wider, with its hull welded together rather than riveted due to modern maritime safety requirements. Unlike the original, the new ship will have enough lifeboats, along with marine evacuation systems - and a boat deck housing replicas of the original lifeboats.
James McDonald, the marketing director of Blue Star Line said: "We are not looking for investment from Dubai, as it is a project we are funding ourselves, but we have been in contact with a number of companies based in the Emirates who are looking at utilising opportunities that arises with the project. We own the Titanic II name and trademark and people are lining up to be part of it."
The maiden voyage will be from Jiangsu in Eastern China to Dubai.
The original Titanic sank on its maiden voyage in 1912 after colliding with an iceberg in the North Atlantic, and let's remember we have seen the same plans like this made and cancelled many many times for 'a fully functioning replica of RMS Titanic'. They've been saying it for 100 years. The plans also say the vessel will be four metres wider than the original to meet 21st century safety regulations, and the hull will be welded together rather than riveted, removing all the best aspects of the original design.

My great Uncle died on the Titanic, he was a fifth engineer.
My dad actually ended up with a nice amount of money due to the Titanic fund after the guys wife died, she had no kids so had decided to split it between her sisters four kids, 25 quid each, in 1935 i believe.

Thank you for sharing that story.
You should be proud of your uncle, as I'm sure you are.
The engineers kept fighting so the ship's lights, pumps, and communications stayed active till the very end, even though they knew in doing so they faced certain death.

Apart from the fact that the unsinkable sank, what is it about Titanic that has kept it in the public consciousness? Its vast size, for a start.

Its vast size for its era.
It would be very small compared to todays ships.
But overall the story is just an interesting one, it was a new age of travel and an exciting time and then this happened.

Will you journey to the wreck of the Titanic aboard the MIR I or II submersibles? They are capable of reaching ocean depths of 20,000 feet (6,000m).This means they can reach 98% of the ocean floor worldwide.

Titanic was the first largest man made moving machine on the planet, ships today are made by robots and unskilled people. If you visited the wreck of Titanic and could retrieve a plate or a cup, you could auction the items and buy any of the ships today, just for one plate.

I think that is an exaggeration mate.
Would love to go down and look though.

If you went down and raised the Titanic and could bring her to the surface including all her artefacts, you could then buy every ship longer than Titanic in the world.
