"Stats are just a high level overview that can maybe help someone who has been living in a cave for the past X period of time."

I think they are useful as a supplementary measure, once you've watched a player to understand consistency and that sort of thing.

A couple of years ago one of the Arsenal coaches, maybe Pat Rice or Boro Primorac or someone, said that they hated the introduction of stats to the game because it's made a lot of players "play for stats" i.e. complete pointless passes, play a lot safer, just so their stats look better, which I thought was a good point

I saw Pat Rice in the sainsburies on great Portland street once. he really does look like a woman.

I couldn't agree more. We all know Barca were the ultimate passing team under Pepe, but sometimes I would watch the full back and CB do about 5 one-twos in concession, completely out of sight of any pressure or opposing players, and I just thought to myself then it was purely to make the stats better.

The thing is, they didn’t even need to because they would often have 70/30 possession anyway, but it just made the stats men out there focus even more on how amazing the team were.

Kane I think has had 4 penalties this year making his states really poor

Can't imagine anybody thinks Kane is in the same class as Aguero.

When it comes to Giroud stats tend to make him look better than he is.

I don't think Giroud is a bad 9 at all.

He is certainly no world beater, and isn't likely to get better, but he is a solid, goalscoring centre forward

Agree to an extent. Whilst I'm not accusing the following players of trying to boost their stats, I think I recall hearing at one stage last season that Skrtel and Mertesacker were among the leaders of pass completion % - makes sense as their passes were more than likely to a defender next to them.

Have to say that those 'clear chance' stats for Giroud are horrific yet not that surprising, yet he'll finish some chances that you wouldn't expect.

Aguero is no doubt he best out of all of them.

Harry Kane is a bit more technical version than Andy Carroll. AC is more injury prone because of his landing while jumping to win the ball in air.
