Moyes 26PL games 13/14 season 42PTS. Van Gaal (2 yrs & £285m later) 26 PL games 15/16 season 41PTS.

Must give LVG more time and a lot more money if we want him to surpass Moyes.

One thing that confuses me is the fact that LVG has stated his intention to leave next season - so why are we keeping him on?

How can we build for the future with a manager who has actually said he's not going to be staying around.

This is nothing to do with becoming a sacking club - surely it's common sense to get a manager who wants to develop and progress with the club.

Surely if he had any respect for himself or for Manchester United, the man would resign.

I appreciate that there are other similar threads but they are concentrating more on sacking the manager.

You stupid man. Stop it and just see the bigger picture. He's had it tough having to spend 250 off million (a bulk of which he spent on a player to then sell him at a loss).

See the bigger picture. Mudd said so.

You should go for Cheque book Rodgers instead

This is why we shouldn't get a short-term manager like Mourinho, who only does two or three years. We signed Van Gaal for the long-haul and even if he leaves after two years that will be longer than the three years we'd get from Mourinho.

All about opinions ultimately mate. In mine the task at hand was bigger than thought so lvg is being used to do an overhaul in 3 years in prep for new manager to take next step

A centre forward and captain thatdoes what he wants and a keeper exempt from criticism by most that has chucked another in from aset play and is so badly lacking any dominance inhis area that the best header of a ball in their team stood unmarked forever.
Joke is some united fans think both are good enough.
Rooney living on records and past glories alongside great players,Degea living as always off instinct.

We didn't sign Van Gaal for the long haul. He was signed for three years, after which he intended to retire. Never a long term appointment but the damage he's done could have long term consequences

I expect to get hammered for saying this and it requires a more detailed post than I can be bothered to give using my phone but watching how we've faired under LvG I can't help but feel Moyes would have at least done no worse once he was able to clear out some of the old guard and spend some money more wisely after that first botched transfer window. I think there's a strong case to be made that the task Moyes inherited was harder than what LvG did.

Would have been interesting to see how LvG would have done as the direct successor to Fergie.

i doubt there are many on here who still have the conviction and energy to hammer you for that.

Maybe, maybe not.

I said Moyes should have gone after the Fulham 'cross-gate' game. However, in light of the lack of progress and big money spending of LvG, I think I and others probably underestimated the task facing Moyes and have clearly been hasty in writing him off. I actually feel in hindsight that he might have been afforded more time.

I suspect the board realise that now too, hence sticking with LvG so far.
