Players Responsibility

If LVG picks a sensible team today and they fail then I think the players need to take some responsibility as well. If they can't get themselves up for a home FA Cup quarter final then I would be very worried.

I think today we should play this team (or as close as possible)

DDG

Varela
Smalling
Rojo/Blind
Darmian

Schweinsteiger
Schneiderlin
Herrera

Lingard
Martial
Depay

Herrera and Schneiderlin box to box with Schweinsteiger in the deeper position. Varela given licence to go forward with Lingard, who isn't the greatest admittedly, providing a good foil, or balance, on that right hand side.

For me there are no excuses for the players today. We've had our moan about the manager but there is only so much he can do as well.

Therefore, if he picks something along the lines above and instructs them to move the ball quickly (which he claims he does) then I won't bother moaning about LVG after the game if we get a bad result. It would all be down to the players for me.

For the record I do think we'll do enough today and win 2-1 as I think (or is that hope) that the players will want to bounce back from the abject performance on Thursday evening.

C'mon United!

Yeah I know Diafol and you're right

It's far too easy to shirk responsibility and I think there is an air of that. Regardless of who's in the dugout, there should always be professional pride shown. That was lacking on Thursday

I had no qualms with Fellaini playing in midfield. I've never seen Herrera be anything other than terrible in that role and Fellaini could have troubled Liverpool. He didn't, sadly. He did get it wrong in terms of Rashford and Martial though. And bringing Carrick on at CB was just disturbing

Exactly so the team selection was wrong then.

And Fellaini against an energetic MF and leads if number 10's is not a good combo

Oh dear. That team selection doesn't fill me with much confidence.

IMO we have a stronger midfield on the bench.

Well the actual line-up is as clear an indication from LvG of future intent as it is possible to make.

He might just as well have just walked out on to the pitch today holding a banner that read “ I don’t want to be manager of MUFC”.

Twice in the past couple of weeks I have pointed out that the club have lined up with the weakest starting 11 that I have EVER witnessed in over 45 years of fandom. Well this one is another step along that, all too evidently, shambolic, path.

Pathetic is too gentle an epithet. Only three of that line up are MUFC first team quality.

The players were by and large OK today. As I said in the OP I would not slate LVG if he had picked what I wanted him to pick. However, I do think he got one decision wrong and that was to pick Fellaini.

Fellaini has his uses but I would have gone in with Morgan in midfield today instead of him if Bastian isn't ready for the 90.

What I'd do now though is get the three of Herrera, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin ready for the replay as the FA Cup is our best chance of success this season and they are our best midfield I believe.

I would play Morgan every week. He wasn't good at all at Anfield but is a player I like and he has been good in recent weeks by and large
