Did anyone else lose their pace young?

I'm asking as for most of my life I've been quick yet now after a few injuries I'm much slower. This has made me pretty useless in football if I'm honest as I'm a winger. The thing is I'm only 18 so I didn't expect this to have happened at my age. One possible explanation is that I've grown a lot in the last 2 years although I always thought growing would make me faster due to the longer stride. Have any of you experienced anything similar and do you have any advice for regaining the pace I used to have?

I think Admin has a point.

I was able to get back to how much I weighed before I broke my femur.

At 18 you shouldn't even be at your peak yet, let alone starting to lose speed

As others said, likely putting on a bit of weight if you have been out injured. Even adding 1.5kg, which you wouldn't really notice unless you are weighing yourself, would have quite a big effect on your sprint speed

Did either of you who say you lost it ever get it back? Or is it gone forever

Have never ran again. Not even for a bus.

I was as fast a Owen at 17 when I was 15 around 11.2 for 100m. By the time I was a binge drinking 18 year old Uni student my pace had gone. At 19-20 by running 20k a day and getting back under 10.5 stone my pace was back. Weight plays a huge factor.

I'm not sure if this applies to me as even though I have put on weight I'm still pretty skinny.. the last time I weighed myself I was 65kg at about 5 foot 10

Are you always running into a headwind?

I was destined for the top

then an 18-20" across circular tumour started forming just above my belt line. I tried to kill it with alcohol but it just kept growing and growing.

Now I've just come to terms with it and that it won't go away. I call him Nigel. We're mates now.

I was very quick up til about 3 years ago(aged 37), especially over the first 5 yards, but visibly slower now and haven't really put on any weight or had injuries.

Just old age creeping up i guess, notice now that game day prep/diet has a big bearing on my performance.

Never had any real pace, off the ball I just have to read the game well so I'm good for another 40 years or so

Kind of in line with Admin's point, I have never been particularly fast but when I was training for a marathon (and probably lost a stone of weight) I noticed a drastic increase in my pace playing 5 a side.

If you don't already, try some middle or long distance running to strengthen your legs.
