Aye, Tis true.

Reminds me of one my favourite lines on a footy forum actually. "I made a special effort to watch (add player) off the ball tonight".

Nutters, the lot of them.

Which of the following gives the most information from which to derive a valid opinion:

1) One pair of eyes from 50 yards away, only able to see an overview of the pitch.

Or

2) Overview, twenty five pairs of eyes which can zoom in on the action anywhere on the pitch with instant slow motion / real speed action replay, two or more experts (who have played the game above pub level) elaborating and extrapolating upon the facts.

Nope, the season ticket holder that queued twenty minutes before half time for a pie and was on the bog for half the game is the voice of reason.

Two silly feckers in front of me the other week spent more time talking to each other than watching the game. Yet I bet they are on forums right now boasting of their fanhood.

Clowns.

Only fans that travel to midweek away games should get the vote ?

Proper fans

Don't think I wrote that line but I regularly take advantage of watching players off the ball, something that you can do at a match but can't do on tv. How else do you think people conclude about the laziness of players like Leon and Afobe and complement the runs into the box of players like Edwards etc.. What players do off the ball is one of the most important parts of the game and to take no interest in that is really missing a lot of what football is about. Never forget seeing Tevez against Wolves at Man City, never seen a player put so much work into finding space and closing opponents down. Quite incredible work rate, and to make matters worse, fairly brilliant when he had the ball too.

This debate comes up every so often and it is pretty obvious that being at a live match gives you a very different view from watching on TV, you can watch the whole pitch, you can concentrate on one area or individual and you can get distracted by the dumb/funny/insightful thing the bloke next to you has just said and miss the moment of the match.

Watching on TV gives you the benefit of replays, close ups and several angles.

The things is, if you don't go to the match you only see the TV version and most of the time only the highlights but if you do go the match you see it live and then you can always watch highlights or even (if you have a strong enough constitution and it has been shown live) the whole thing on TV after the fact.

How happy would people be if we scrapped our travel budget for the scouting team and only signed players on the basis of video evidence in future?

Not very would be my guess.

As for voting for POTS & GOTS it is open to anyone with a supporter number. You don't need to be a season ticket holder, to travel home and away or to have seen the goals live.

I was only joking about two completely different experiences.

And no, wasn't aimed at you DJ.

I thought Byrne's goal was very well taken and remember being impressed at the time. Kmac's first goal was a cracker as was Henry's against Fulham. No, can't decide so I'll go with Siggy's against Sheff Wed (you heard it here first).

Player of the season has to be James Henry. Always involved, always committed. lacks pace but makes up for it in positional awareness. Of the nominated goals of the season he was involved in five of them, a pretty impressive statistic by itself.

On the basis that the scouting team recommended Byrne, Clarke, Wallace, Saville, Rowe, Sagbo, Graham etc..... based on seeing them play; I would be ecstatic if they were confined to Molineux to watch videos.
They certainly couldn't do much worse!

this might be the first season where GOTS contenders include pretty much every goal we've scored. some crackers in the selection, but a really poor year for overall goalscoring.

I've gone for doc as POTS - think he's been excellent in all but one game that I've seen him play, and that on top of being asked to play out of position. plus he's weighed in with a few good goals, and shown a bit of leadership. probably henry/edwards in 2nd and 3rd place, no particular order.

GOTS for me was the header v boro. a really good build up, which if I remember started with Edwards back in our own half and finished with a wonderful diving header. I tend to prefer team efforts and good moves to the spectacular long range shots. plus boro have the best defence in the league so to pick them apart so skillfully is worth extra acclaim.
