Transfer targets - a place to confess.

How many times does a player sign for your team and you make your mind up on him: "he's a good finisher" or "he's awful at defending" even though you've only seen one or two highlights of him, read a couple of reports where he gets a mention, or are just judging him on what others say. By others I mean pundits, journos or even people on here? When I think about it I do it a lot. Even more now Football manager doesn't give me 70% of my football knowledge.

I do it all the time. I remember way back before YouTube was around, a young VC on here telling everyone what a great signing Roy Keane was and that he'd compliment Ince really well.

Then Fergie plays him on the right wing in his first game, "he's shiiiit" I thought. He missed a one-on-one chance if I remember correctly. Arsenal - Charity Shield - 1993. Epic game. Google the highlights. It's L'Oreal, it's worth it.

Obviously I was wrong on this. If I'd have seen him on Champ Manager (as it was called back then) and his attributes were on show (pretty much 20 from 20 on everything in the mental section, I'd have known what to look for: Aggression, determination, etc, etc.

So now with silly season fast approaching, who will you unfairly judge?

Even if you've watched a player 20 times, say for Everton, that player may be doing ok, but his flaws are exposed by that teams frailties; and when he pulls on the famous shirt of your club, he may get a boost of confidence or dovetail seamlessly with the other defenders and suddenly he's a world beater. Maybe the move to your club gives him the confidence he needs to make the step up; and could even bring other players up a level. Ask Leicester how Huth has changed their defence. I don't care if you're that guy's Dad, you won't have foreseen that, not even the great seer of Kattegat would've foreseen that! (Vikings )

Or maybe he'll go the opposite way, he's out of his comfort zone, he crumbles under the weight of the price tag, misses home, or can only perform in one team with one style. Or just doesn't suit your team, even though you thought he was World Class. The ones that stand out in my little head are Falcao, Di Maria and to a lesser extent Veron, or even Poborsky (that chip )

I totally agree LLM about Fazio but not about Clinton N'Jie.

When Clinton has played i thought he pressed the opposition well. Particular in the Monaco game at home when we won 4-1.

I still believe in him and you can judge a player after only playing a handful of games. Yes he is raw, one minute he does something great then he will take a bad touch or make a poor cross but the talent is clearly there.
Hopefully he will stay injury free next season, if he has a poor season then judge him and perhaps sell him.

Well I took your earlier comment "I believed in Bebe ffs" to mean you had reserved judgement until he played in his preferred position for us before no longer "believing" in him ie not rating him good enough for United, despite doing well in his games up front.

Your post makes no sense

I was very clear about my position regarding Bebe

It makes perfect sense. You just don't know how to answer. Hahaha

To you maybe

You believed in Bebe
He got games up front like you felt he deserved
He did well up front
Despite doing well up front you no longer believe (rate) him
