Acknowledgement of Failure

Many have been on here to praise LVG's leaving statement, with phrases like 'class act' being banded about. Now I don't doubt LVG's professionalism, or the effort he has put in, but let's be honest, the club has gone backwards this season. Bringing through a few youngsters is his one legacy, but overall it has been very poor. In the 30 odd years I've been watching Utd, I've never seen us play as dourly as we have this season - how many actual stand-out games can you remember?

Now we can see how nice it is that he acknowledges all the staff, fans etc, but LVG thinks that he has done a good job and should have been allowed to finish his final year. 4th the season before was ok, but we have gone backwards since, not improved, and rather than accept that he has failed or acknowledged that things should be better, we hear excuses of injuries and high expectation. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and LVG has failed miserably.

The more I think about the last 2 seasons, how poor we have been, what has been deemed as acceptable by the manager, the more angry I get about what has been an uninspiring tenure and wasted opportunity. Nice words from LVG, but let's be brutally honest, he's been very poor. He deserves to be sacked, and a few nice words in leaving shouldn't hide that fact.

Time will tell how "poor" LvG has been...

These are teams all with players better than we have with much more motivated players. Is mourinho who failed this season waaank? Or wenger? Or was it great management from Leicester who had undoubtedly 2 of the best players in the league?

Please don't tell me you're referring to vardy

No, our own eyes tell us how poor we were. Do you honestly not recall the last 2 dire years?

Of course it's great to win a trophy, but I'm not sure if that is his legacy as such. A lot of people will remember a lot of dour football, a failure to challenge for the title etc A lot has unfortunately overshadowed the FA Cup success

kinsang Pochettino is rated so highly while LVG is branded clueless yet LVG Man Utd record managed 136 points and Pochettino managed 134 points in same timeframe.

I think Pochettino is a good manager, although in the end his Spurs team blew a great chance to really challenge for the league - they were 2nd for a good while, but never really threatened Leicester, even though most thought that they would - it will be interesting to see how Spurs cope next season with expected greater challenges from the 2 Manchester clubs, and this will be the real test for him.

I wouldn't say LVG was clueless, just that his methods weren't working in terms of producing winning football, and if the style of play under him wasn't regularly producing 3 points, then it's very difficult to accept that style of play. He did win us a trophy, he did bring on some youngsters, but ultimately he failed to produce the results expected, no matter how hard he tried.

Van Gaal didn't get the sack at Xmas because Mourinho didn't want the job until summer.

That's what I suggested back in December.

it can't be true though because people on Ja606 have been saying for the last 6 months that Ed is clueless and doesn't have the balls to sack LVG etc. etc.

Surely those people can't have been wrong? They whined every day about this issue and were very loud and adamant they were correct.

Surely they can't have been wrong after all? Come to think of it...where did all those people go?
