Managers > Players

The 2015-16 season has been unpredictable, exciting and full of sub-plots that have fuelled a lot of inter-club wumming on ja606. As my club has slipped into the abyss of League 1 , I have thoroughly enjoyed the Prem as a neutral.

I have read a lot of articles / comments about how poor the Prem is compared to previous seasons. Clearly the Spanish League is way ahead, and you could also argue that Bayern, Dortmund, PSG and Juventus are ahead of our top teams. BUT...

Next season the Prem is going to have the world's top managers in it. So, do you all think that these managers will attract the best players. Are we about to see a shift in power. Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Bale, etc will clearly stay where they are. But, surely there are plenty of the next-level players who can be persuaded to come to England when we clearly have such managerial power in our league!!

Thoughts...

I agree HRH, we are currently a long way off.

Yet with the TV revenue the 'smaller clubs' can have fantastic talents like Payet, Shaqiri, Iturbe (I know he flopped), Winjaldum in their team.

I think the competitive nature of the PL will drive up standards. We could be looking at 8/9/10 sides battling for a CL place in my opinion next season.

I dont see us being major powers in Europe overnight, but I think within the next three its likely we will be.

Ronaldo and Messi probably the beacons of change.....

PL will only get better from now on. With higher revenue, fan base and competitors. LCFC winning the PREM ended the era of oil/sugar daddy money and start of New Era for Prem imo where many teams have equal opportunity to win the championship.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In the future this time will be known as the One-Year Era.

Nah man times are changing, the monopoly is slowly fading away. After dominance of top clubs came Sugar daddy and recently even they are being driven out. The new era is on the horizon.
Say goodbye to monopoly inside Prem and this is what will make Prem the hottest football league out there bar none.

The managers are there, the money is there and like Ledley I think there will be more teams than ever in with a chance of competing on close to a level playing field. What excites me most though is the way teams have had to embrace their academies. Exciting times ahead although I suspect it will be a few years before the prem claims the top table prize. I do wonder what happens in the event of Brexit? Probably nothing but maybe the threatened power houses of Euro football might call for UK clubs to be hamstrung in some way? I appreciate European football doesn't mean Union football but perhaps countries like Spain will use it in an attempt to limit or curtail a power shift?

Not saying the league won't be interesting or hotly contested, but take a quick look at club revenues and you'll see there's clearly still an elite.

United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool's more than double every other club's bar Spurs, who are in a kind of half-way hotel.

The only means to join that elite bar a furious injection of wonga is by managing sustained success over a few seasons.

Spurs would be the only club who could achieve that shortish term imo.

Yes there is a gap but it has been receded so much and will continue as we speak, soon enough transfer revenue will be one of the reason not one of the main reason for success.

And that will be the time when we see what people call freak seasons happening more often.

Transfer revenues have very little impact whatsoever on the bigger teams. Most seasons they'll spend significantly more than they bring in.

The bulk of the revenue gap is due to merchandising and sponsorships.

The elite clubs in the PL are well-established, worldwide 'brands' nowadays.

That's why a single season won't serve to lift the others into contention. It takes heavy investment, time and sustained success to build the brand.

If Leicester don't follow up on their PL title with at least a couple more seasons of solid performances, its long-term effect on their standing in the PL ladder will be relatively limited.

With more added revenue all the teams in the league has benefited greatly, not only in their transfer aspect but also youth teams, facilities such as fitness, training grounds etc. Also being able to attract quality players into their teams.

These all positives will continue to have snowball effect in improving the club and close the gap with bigger players, to the point where they might not be able to replace them but will surely make is much more difficult for any team to win consistently, as seen this season. (This trend has been slowly picking up for time now)

In the past season if you look at the title winners, their transfer budget was always among the highest and also those team had external source of income and not entirely income generated via merchandising and sponsorships but ownership.

But with more revenue to contenders who have been closer and the nature of Prem changing because of overall improvements among the major and minor players within the league.

LCFC winning the championship potentially has started a new era for the Prem, where the Elite teams and the others gap will slowly recede and more teams having chances for the successful championship campaign due to bunch of different circumstances such as improved fitness (Spurs, LCFC), higher quality teams (across PL), better management (current managers competing) etc.

Exciting times ahead, gone are the days of monopoly..soon potentially Elitism will slowly be broken as well.

Koeman now almost certain to move to Everton

Part of the problem is the fans reluctance to allow managers to play home grown players. You see it during every transfer window, where the fans aren't happy unless the big name foreign players are being pursued, and with the level of money now involved in the EPL it would certainly be a move that most of them would consider making, unfortunately the most expensive tool doesn't always do the best job
