World Ultimate Championships 2016 - London

This week is the World Ultimate Championships in London, if you don’t know what Ultimate Frisbee this is a really good way to learn about a new sport, and no it’s not something you play with a dog.

You can catch some games here http://livestream.com/accounts/3823519

WHAT IS ULTIMATE FRISBEE?
Ultimate Frisbee is a mixture of different sports, a bit of rugby, basketball, football etc but the basic rules are below.

BASIC RULES
* You have two teams consisting of 7 players each, (5 players on beach). They both start at different ends of the field.

* The objective is to move the disc between your team mates without dropping the disc to the opposite side of the field called the end zone. If a player catches the disc within the end zone it’s a point to the attacking team.

* If the disc is dropped the defending team attacks to their opposite side of the field to try and score a point.

* Like in basketball, you cannot run or walk with the disc.

* There are no referees in this sport, it’s up to the players to talk it over if they think something was a foul or not. In the Worlds Championships and other high profile games you have game advisors. They are only consulted if the players want but the final decision is between the players involved in the incident.

* To keep a clean and honest game, there is another prize called Spirit Of The Game (SOTG) and after each match you judge how he other team performed, no one wants to be a team and get a bad SOTG score so mostly decisions are fair.

World Championship Categories
There are 5 competitions,
Women, Men and Mix
Women and Men Masters (over 30 age category although you can be over 30 to play in the normal category too)

Mixed has to consist of a minimum of 3 players of the same gender in each point in each team.

SUPER POWERS IN THE SPORT
USA and Canada are likely to win all the divisions with Japan, GB, Australia, Germany and a few other teams fighting for 3rd place.

***************************************************************

Anyway, well worth watching the mix or men's games, GB Mixed plays at 11:30 against Japan, so it should be a good game.
