Vardy Snub & the 5 yr search for a striker

From a personal point of view I am so apathetic about Vardy's decision and it appears most arsenal fans arent bothered aswell. Its a bit unfair from a football point of view as I think the lad can play and would have improved us no end.

I am actually proud of the way Arsene has handled it, and praised the player for his loyalty rather than dish out excuses or snide insults as other clubs do.

We know the player was interested and through his agent who is known to arsenal a deal was a real possibility until he made his decision but the whole thing raises more questions than answers though.

1) Did Wenger bid for Vardy because he believes he is the best available striker or did he do it to take advantage of his cheap release clause?
2) Once Leicester had offered Vardy an improved deal why did Wenger decide against matching it or pursuing the player further? Is this Wenger pulling out of another deal once there is competition?
3) Frowning on Vardy by the majority of Arsenal fans, does it mean we are against all players of his ilk british, not very skillful, not a fancy/big name? If it was a bid for Kane, how would Arsenal fans feel? Kane isnt very mobile or fast even though I like him personally. Our history of great strikers at the club means because we have been waiting for soo long we seem to want a Huge name, not someone who will come in and do a job?

From a personal point of view, I didnt want Vardy simply based on his personality.Performance wise I was fairly confident he would deliver but I doubt he would have fitted with our club and the dressing room. The reports that he could not guarantee Vardy a starting berth in his favorite position are a concern aswell.

Its all good being relieved that he has signed for Leicester but the signs point to Wenger doing what he has done for the last few years and probably giving Theo another chance.

Its quite obvious that Wenger has been looking for a worldie to replace RVP (Not Welbeck or Vardy) but at the same time once he has identified the players he is not wiling to go the extra mile to get them.

The whole thing is depressing because unless a Benzema suddenly becomes surplus to requirements at Real(unlikely) I can see us go into another season without a top striker as he will not want to sign a player only marginally better/faster than Giroud or more reliable than Theo.

Lets hope I have totally misread the whole thing and he has something else up his sleeve.

I'm sure there are some athletic finishers out there with decent hold up play. The names we know about all look relatively unlikely:

Lukaku
Morata
Higuain
Abameyang
Icardi

Whatever happens we must sign a proper striker. We have only signed Giroud and sanogo in what 6 years? I've had enough of these half strikers Wenger keeps getting in a sort of false and hopeful attempt to solve the problem. Welbeck, podolski, Sanchez, Theo etc. He gives them a quick go up front and reverts to Giroud.

I honestly think Sanchez is worth a go up top. What can vardy do that he can't? Plus it's easier to find a top Wideman than a striker to support him.

Lukaku is not an Arsenal striker.I love the lad but his poor first touch means he wont make it at arsenal.Consider Giroud is actually got a great first touch and some decent knock-ons but we still struggle in the final third.Lukaku wont improve us at all.

not put most clearly. What I meant was I'm annoyed with his half hearted attempts at playing these guys there. Why sign them as supposed strikers, give them 5-6 games there (where they don't play particularly badly) and then move them wide again forever.

I understand his reservations about some of them but Sanchez is strong and lethal and sloppy on the left. Ideally I'd have him in a front pairing.

Agreed. I don't think he would improve us enough or in the way we would like.
