Looking light across the central positions

With the bombshell(ish) news that Bentaleb is leaving, it leaves us extremely light on quality (not numbers) across the four central defensive positions - CB and CM.

Four positions

Bold = Potential 1st XI quality
Normal = Squad Player
Italic = Unproven Youngster

Vertonghen
Alderweireld
Wimmer

CCV

Dier
Wanyama
Dembele

Mason
Carroll
Onomah

Although there are ten players, in my opinion there are only six players I would trust for the really big games for these key positions.

Compounding this, two of them are unavailable at the start - the injured Vertonghen and the suspended Dembele, and we will be playing with the ultra defensive, dare I say Pulis-negative, Dier-Wanyama axis.

We are currently one injury from one of CCV, Carroll, Mason or Onomah starting games in one of these positions.

Personal opinion:
Buy a Right CB, and a ball-carrying CM
Loan the two kids, sell Carroll, and keep Mason as #9

This may not appear to be much of a problem now, as games are light in August, but by September we will be in the thick of the PL/CL/CoC period.

Bare minimum we need one of the two players above in I think

why do we need another RB? am I missing something?

Corluka's a CB

He played RB for Spurs more often than not if I recall correctly but he's a CB by trade, especially now he's a bit older.

Corluka

Corluka would 100% be a centre back for us, even his younger self.

Can you imagine him up and down all game at RB?

Ok cool. I was a big corluka fan and in my opinion he was and still is far better than walker (at rb)

Redknapp shipped him off though

Even in his prime he would not have made a RB for us now.

He was next to useless without Lennon in front of him. Can remember how sheite we looked whenever he and Rafa/Niko/Luka ever played down the right together

Cracking with a winger in front though

I used to love the perfectly weighted passes corluka used to play between fullback and centre back for Lennon to run on to

Very dangerous when executed well

30 so would make an excellent signing to come in for 2-3 years until CCV is ready
