Awful start to the season...

Green - 1 Weak mistake in the goal, awful kicking. Signed a 40 year old version of Silvestri...

Berardi - 4 Unfit and he has a lot to prove IMO. We all like his passion, but he's very injury prone and has yet to put a long run of consistent games together.

Bartley - 6 Defended fairly well.

Bamba - 6 As above.

Taylor - 5 Didn't do much wrong for me

Diagoura - 1 Awful. Hardly could tell he was playig.

Viera - 1 He's talented, but this wasn't a game he should be playing. Looked out of his depth, gave away a penalty.

Grimes - 0 Rather not see him play again.

Roofe - 3 Couldn't get into the game at all

Dallas - 3 Didn't get into the game either. Needs to step up this season.

Wood - 3 Was given nothing to work with.

Subs:

Coyle - 3 Was decent till he was bullied in the last minute.

Antonsson - 2 Should have scored.

Sacko - N/A Wonderful finish after he hand balled it

Monk - 2

Got it wrong today with starting Berardi, Viera and Grimes. Coyle looked fairly comfortable when he was on it made no sense to start an unfit player. Viera was out his depth and Monk should be easing him into the first team. Grimes looks awful, ridiculous to start him over Mowatt - who's a much better player.

Going to be a long season. I was hopeful before this game, we've added more attacking options to our squad and I thought we'd see an improvement. But this game shows what happens when you remove the heartbeat of what was already an average team. Gaping hole in the middle of our team without Cook, and also Bridcutt. There's no point strengthing one part of the team (attack) if you're going to weaken the other. You could have 3 brilliant players upfront, but without a midfield that can get on the ball and control the game, you'll struggle.

Get Bridcutt in now. Send Grimes back and play Mowatt.

Taylor was awful, took a throw on straight to their players!

Sacko the only bright spark for me when he came on.

Always best to get your worst performance of the season out the way in the first game

Viera was poor today, however he was never a 1.

Different people see different things.

I didn't think Taylor did much wrong.

Viera was part of the 3 man centremidfield that couldn't get a hold on the game at all. He's not to blame, because he's young and shouldn't have been playing. But was terrible overall. I said on the match thread that he'd played a few nice passes, but you need more than flashes in the middle of the park.

We need to suggest to Sol he retire in my view, too slow and kept passing to the opposition. Not sure why Coops wasn't playing, even unfit he cannot be as bad as Sol was.

Said to a few mates who were overly optimistic about the season that things will not change.

The club remains run by an egotist and has negativity surrounding it, I predicted Monk will be gone by game 10 max, hope I am wrong but Cellino is poison and no success will come while he is here.

Worryingly, a lot of them didn't look interested.

Simple question yes or no,
If we had Bridcutt, Hernandez and a fit Cooper in the side for Bamba, Dave and Grimes and they had the man sent off after 50 mins as he should have been would we have won,

Personally, I though that Viera did pretty well in a shambolic midfield. Not sure why he deserves a one as part of a sh*t midfield, when Bartley/Bamba deserve a six despite both being part of a cr*p team!

Taylor looked well off the pace to me, his first three crosses were awful and even Tony Currie said on the pitch at half-time, when asked about Leeds' threat, "Well, if the Leeds left-back could cross a ball.... well, I'm right aren't I?" The crosses got a little better, but it wasn't the Taylor that we know.

As for Big Dave, the less said the better. A truly terrible performance. Passes going astray, underhit, overhit, ignoring the forward pass to turn around and pass sideways. Every time it got to him whilst we were attacking, he'd turn and pass sideways or backwards taking all the pace out of the attack. I thought he was atrocious.

And Green, well, he looked very ill at ease to me. He flapped at the first goal, didn't catch the ball until the second half and can't kick. His left foot is clearly non-existent (note to Charlie, don't pass it back to Green!) and even a pass-back to his right foot resulted in a really poor clearance. He made a couple of saves in the second half, which were right down at the other end so I couldn't see that well, but there reports suggest they were pretty good. But the rest of his game, I thought, was very poor.

Grimes did very little, Sakho looked bright and energetic when he came on and Antonsson (?) looks as if he knows where the goal is, but can't shoot straight. Also thought Coyle generally did well once he replaced Berardi. But overall, we were pretty poor. We certainly didn't look like a team who had been prepared thoroughly for the new season.

So, apart from the sunshine (and I was basking in it on the front row of the upper tier) the day was a shambles.

Although, what depressed me most was that on only two occasions did I hear "Time to go, Massimo" and on both it petered out immediately with only about ten or twenty joining in. A case of happy with him here or a case of utter despondency based on what was being served up on the pitch?

Perhaps a one is overally harsh. My view though is that the centrebacks weren't at fault for the goals and actually defended well. The game was lost in midfield and the reason they were constantly under pressure was the failure of Diagoura, Viera and Grimes to get any sort of hold on the game. The midfield needed to be strong, calmer on the ball, to demand the ball off the defence and create chances. They didn't do that, it seemed like we had a giant hole in the centre of the pitch.
