Our own stupid fans probably delayed Valencia and made them think they could get more as we looked desperate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, so our bungled transfer window is the fans' fault now?

Fans delayed Valencia? Thats a new one or was it meant to be sarcasm.
Valencia waited till Wenger boxed himself into a corner.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
this is exactly it, Wenger tried to penny pinch and Valencia stood firm so he was backed into a corner and gave the battle up.

I understand that, but I can't believe there's no way we couldn't have gotten it done earlier
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The longer afc waited, (by not making an offer) the chances increased that Valencia would lower valuation.
If Valencia were unable to raise enough funds via player sales they would breach FFP, and also have four unregistered players on their books.
The risk from AFC's position was that Valencia would raise the funds elsewhere.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats all well and good, but I still think we should have either stumped up or gone elsewhere.
Perez and Mustafi may not be world class signings but imagine the buzz around the club if we'd lined up with four new signings playing against Liverpool. There'd have been excitement rather than apprehension and anger around club.
I'm not saying we'd have gone on to win our first two games but we would have given ourselves a better chance and from there could have built some momentum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying there's not fundamental problems with afc's transfer strategy. Seems like Perez has been a last resort.
But in regard to Mustafi his buyout (not a release clause) was £42m. So while there has been an obvious need for a CB, afc weren't willing to fork out the full buyout price.

Yeah that's fair enough, not meaning to argue or anything more needing somewhere to vent
At least Mustafi was targeted earlier as well as Xhaka, so in two of the three positions we needed we got our man. And in the last we got an alternative to Giroud that wasn't Vardy, so all in all not too bad

£90 million in transfers?
A brave new world this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As brave and new as 2 years ago when we spent pretty much exactly that.
