We still need a WC striker

With the apparently imminent signing of Perez and Mustafi, thats £50m-ish on 2 players to add to the £35m for Xhaka and a few cheap players.

We have added Asano and Perez as strikers but neither are coming in with a top reputation, well Asano has in Japan apparently but not as a top international player. We will maybe have better squad depth at CF but will that be enough? I would have preferred a single signing of a top CF. Aubameyang had a release clause of £65m I think it was and if we had come in at the start of the transfer window with an offer for that and pushed it we could have got him. Or Lewandowski said he was considering moving from BM to a team where he could win things. If we got him we could have won things. He then said he wanted to stay. Yes they would have cost a lot and demanded big wages, but with the extra income from doing better it would have still made good economic sense. It would have lifted team morale as well, particularly Ozil and Sanchez who are stalling on new contracts.

We could still have added some squad players like Holding.

Release clause means nothing and we learnt that from Suarez case. PEA clearly didn't want to come to Arsenal or even England in that instance. I am not supporting Wenger but I am sure he must have looked at that option.

Despite what some may say, some players simply aren't available for transfer to Arsenal. At some point the club have to move on to the next option.
Auba has been quite open about his future, and that never once included Arsenal.
Lewa has never seriously been linked with a move away from Bayern, especially not to Arsenal.

Auba - "i would join arsenal but i hear Wenger has a degree in economics but doesn't understand money so i wont"

Lewa - "i would join arsenal but i hear all the fans are on the verge off mass protests so i wont"

Its up to the player to ensure their contracts are honoured. If the release clause is met the player can force it through if they want to under British (and probably German), European and International contract and employment laws.

We would have to make any player we sign want to join us which we dont seem great at doing since David Dean left.

Both PEA and Lewa would rather play for Madrid and we can't compete with them in any sense - finances prestige or likelihood of trophies. The only way we could get either of them is if Madrid didn't want them, and for that we'd probably have to wait all Summer while Madrid make whatever moves they are going to make in the market. While we do that we can't do anything else because we know we have to keep £70m spare just in case (as it is that kind of happened anyway).

It's not as simple as Arsene, Dicky and Ivan rocking up in Munich or Dortmund in June with a suitcase full of money and coming home with one of the best strikers in the world.

Skins, hence my last comment that we need to make players want to sign.

How?

The only way those players would sign is if we threw money at them like Man Utd do, that's not going to happen.
