I feel jos has made it pretty clear he intends to play 4231 with pogba as one half of cm 2. I rate pogba but initially did not want him bcos i fel none of existng cm will compliment him in a cm 2. Here are our options;
bastian - nope, not wanted by Jose
carrick - nope, i suspect he only has one more season
herrera - i like him a lot but he would not compliment pogba, so no
morgan - on paper he should be pogba's partner but he needs to perform and earn joses trust
fellaini - i nvr saw potentia/talent in him. But the reality is he is likely to be pogbas partner unless morgan seriously steps up.
wildcard - TFM - When i 1st saw this lad i thought he could be developed into a defensive b2b. And now we have pogba who is an offensive b2b i hope to one day see a cm of;

From what we currently have maybe Bastian is the most likely long term partner, or Fellaini if he keeps up his form.

There isn't an actual rule that says that in a midfield two one has to be a DM and one an AM. Why not have two midfielders who can perform both roles?

I'd have assumed that Pogba's current girlfriend has the best chance of becoming his long-term partner.

Match dependent, I doubt we will find a versatile CM like Pogba to accompany him.
I see strengths with Herrera, but also weaknesses. Same goes with Fellaini, two totally different players.
Schneiderlin is maybe in the middle of the two in terms of versatility, but haven't performed on the level to expect. There will be rotation though, and all the players mention above will have their try in the patner role.

Pogba and TMF.
Carrick and schweinsteiger need to be moved on.
Bigger problem is just how slow the team is going forward. Ibrahimovic Rooney mata fellaini. Fairly dull to watch still unfortunately. Need someone with a bit of pace behind ibra and Rooney/mata to be benched/sold.

Pogba will need a new CM partner now.
Fellaini is out injured for a while. His back has fallen off.
"I am going to lose Fellaini for a while. He has a muscle injury in his back and it is not good," said Mourinho.
