Anyone know?
Never thought I'd ever say this as I was one of his biggest critics; Dembele is a massive miss for us. Whilst he's not the playmaker I'd like to see in midfield, he certainly brings A LOT to our midfield. Strength, dribbling, quick feet and he's also able to drive forward. Those qualities are sorely missed in most games but especially when a team adopt the high press against us like Liverpool did. Wanyama is good at what he does but he's also limited at what he can do - tackle and pass it 10 yards. I also read a stat that Kane has scored 1 in his last 12 or so when Dembele hasn't played which surely isn't a coincidence.
Whilst Dembele doesn't habitually get suspended for 6 games, we can't go into this season without any adequate competition for Dembele. Someone who's comfortable on the ball and can get the game going from midfield, which in turn helps the likes of Kane, Lamela, Eriksen etc more opportunity to influence the game. This is totally ridiculous from us. This season should have been about shifting the deadwood and replacing them with better players. Instead we're just padding out the squad with a bunch of kids who I don't think many/any of us actually believe are ready. How does that improve us exactly?
I'm not some kind of fantasist who believes we should go and spend £50m or whatever on Draxler, but we need a squad that's able to compete properly this season. If our scouting setup are unable to identify players who'll improve us then they're stealing a living.
Poor transfer window so far and not much time to improve on what we've got

Witsel's about as close in style to Dembele as you can find. Big strong ball carrier with a good range of passing. Can't shoot for toffee too, just to complete the similarity.
Calhanoglu is a clever playmaker who plays across attacking midfield. Not massively quick but very skilful and excellent at picking clever passes. Great free kick taker too. Would be a much better option than Alli alongside Eriksen and Lamela - far more creativity to link play and unlock defences, and comfortable coming in off the left onto his stronger right foot. Exactly the sort of Payet-esque signing Spurs need to add a bit of magic to all the grit.

Calhanoglu Sounds good.
Not sold on Witsel and never will be. How he keeps Dembele out of the Belgium team is beyond me.

I'd agree Witsel isn't as good as Dembele, but then Dembele has only really played to his full ability in the last year or so

I like Brozović from inter. Can play CM and AM and at 23 is a good age for Poch.

Witsel is staying at Zenit for another season. He's a good player but hasn't kicked on to what people thought he'd be several years ago, same with Defour actually.
That new Inter owner has just splashed out €70m on Gabigol and Joao Mario apparently
Brozovic would be a good player for us
