I'm not part of all this modern day nonsense differentiating midfielders by numbers. When I watched zidane, he was the best midfielder in his day period. Pogba is currently not in the top 3 in the league.

And the numbers thing is not "nonsense". It is a quick way - and like all quick ways, an imperfect one - of distinguishing between the different things midfielders do.

Often it's a midfielder taking up the most advanced position, isn't it? He can't be expected to do all the things that a regular CF can do but provides a goal threat as well as supplementing the midfield at times.

Not a term or a position I really like, to be honest. But I think I know what people mean by a no. 8.
