As we are so inept at defending corners and balls into the box in general, does anyone have a logical reason why jonnson spent the whole match warming his posterior on the bench?

You're referring to Pontus Jansson, right?
Only things I can think of are Pontus' fitness
and wanting to play a more attacking game than D,
a goal down. But, that's a shaky couple of reasons.
Would be surprised if he doesn't start next game.

Presume because he was a new signing and Cooper and Bartley did well against Wednesday.

Can be a dangerous strategy to change your defence in the middle of a game. Not only that but bringing on someone that may not have the best grasp of the league or the language wouldn't help matters either.

Lack of fitness. He barely featured if at all for Torino and limped off Tuesday night with cramp, they said at the time he wouldn't be involved Saturday. He's a sure starter for me, we cannot be any worse at conceding goals, we have two huge centre backs and two decent full backs

Fair comments guys but my inclination given our obvious weaknesses would have been to risk him.
I doubt if Monk will be allowed too long to put it right but would hope otherwise.

Conceding goals has been a major problem for many a season. We've changed coaches, we've changed players, and nothing seems to make any difference. Is it down to the quality of the defenders?
Buy cheap, you get what you pay for. Get in loans with a view to buying and it's as though you're not convinced they're going to be good enough. They need to prove themselves.
Can we really afford to be trying players out? We need the finished article, players you know are going to make a difference.
This may sound harsh, but frankly I don't think we've had that type of player at LUFC for a long time. We've had young players with potential who have looked the part but they've been sold on to Premier League teams as we continue to be a team that has consistently fallen short. Little wonder we are where we are.

Lack of match fitness, newly arrived in England, new to his teammates and the Championship.
Let's not rush him and then write him off when he doesn't play that well as he was not ready.

X2 Johnny.
Also, good Centre half play is as much about partnerships as individuals. You need to pick your best partnership and let them develop an understanding accepting there will be bumps on the way... And that one will get injured just when they start looking good!
That said, defender at corners is a separate aspect. Down to organisation as a team and concentration/decision making as an individual. Not sure we've got either aspect right and it's not acceptable at this level.

Needs work on the training ground and to get players organizing themselves, just lack of leadership conceding soft goals.
