What to do about Ramsey?

When he comes back things are going to get interesting.

We all criticized Wenger for playing Sanchez up front and for some of his midfield selections but the team looks stunning at the moment. The injury to Coq throws a spanner into the works but Xhaka should come right in and do the job; for 35m he better be able to....

Wenger's love for Ramsey is out of control, i just hope he doesn't drop one of our better players to squeeze him back into the team. We need Xhaka in to break up play and get quick ball to attackers. Ramsey slows us down and tries to show off. No other players from yesterday should be even close to losing their places:

Sanchez - amazing at the moment. On par with Messi/Ronaldo
Iwobi- a revelation and on top, top form
Theo - good run in the side and starting to deliver
Ozil - top class yesterday, returning to form
Cazorla - Been brilliant so far

That leaves one position in midfield left so it's going to be a shoot-out between Xhaka and Ramsey by the looks of it.

======

He's nowhere near Messi or Ronaldo.

I know, I was being sarcastic...

I believe the best pairing could be Ramsey/Xhaka. But we shall see.

Ramsey/Xhaka.....

So much discipline.

I may be proved wrong - but that seems like an absolute facking nightmare of a partnership.

Ramsey can partner anyone in CUP games for all I care. Just don't want him anywhere near the starting lineup at the moment in the league.

Ramsey should not even be in the team talk less of starting eleven.
Elneny was not even on the bench today and I rate him better than the Welshman.

Ramsey has got a lot of criticism. And a lot of justified. However people were moaning about Theo just a few days ago. Ramsey has superb stamina. And we will need that in central midfield. Santi has been very good at the start of this season. But he is over 30 and his fresh legs are not going to last. Chelsea sat back with two holding midfield players. Santi doesn't cover the ground as well and last year had huge problems against teams that were willing to attack. Thats why Wenger played Ramsey wide to add someone who could cover the pitch.

I think the midfield partnerships depends on the nature of opponents. I agree that Xhaka/Ramsey is potentially a tasty partnership as is Xhaka/Elneny but both are too slow and Im convinced that when we want to press big teams Coq/Santi is by far our best partnership.

Xhaka actually slowed the tempo down a bit yesterday and when we play at a high tempo he isnt ideal.

Ramsey has been misused by Wenger and has suffered as a result of it. We saw in the Euros that he can do a good job when used in his natural position. He is probably the natural successor to Santi who is 32 in a few months although Wilshere will want that spot as well. Being used as a DM and played wide has not helped Ramsey gain popularity with the fans but he has done a job there.

Ramsey is a good player when used correctly and I think he gets a lot of unfair stick on here because of his willingness to do a job for the team. In the next year or two when Santi has to wind down due to age I think Ramsey will surprise a lot of people, like Walcott is at the moment with a run of games in his strongest position free of injury.

Football is a squad game. No doubt by the time Ramsey eventually returns we'll have a few more injuries in the side, so there'll be plenty of space for him to come back in. If not in the starting 11, then on the bench

Ramsey was good at the start of last season in a team that was playing a similar style to how we played on Saturday. He played in the United win which was an almost identical performance. The problem he had was the injuries (inevitably including his own) meant he was out the team then had to come back in and play in a central midfield pairing with Flamini. That was just awful for everyone involved.

Ramsey is a good player. I don't think he should get in the starting XI if the team is playing like it did at the weekend, but he's not going to immediately make us garbage if he does come in.
