Sense at last......

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/british-troops-shielded-legal-action-european-court-human-rights-iraq-afghanistan-a7343551.html

Looks like our troops are going to be exempt from being prosecuted by the ECHR, when in theatre. Even better, the firm that is processing these mostly sporadic claims, has closed down. Good riddance to the parasitic pondlifes.

At least our troops can now deploy without the worry of ending up being prosecuted for doing their job. Such concerns only endanger them whilst in theatre. Obviously, things do go wrong and soldiers do commit crimes when under massive pressure, so they are still liable under the Geneva convention and British Law.

And full credit to the government for pushing this through. I'm usually full of criticism for them, so it's only fair to give credit where it's due

Try not to get into tiit for tat arguments about specific events or beliefs, this is based on how wrong the overall system was. Abusive posts will be deleted.....

I disagree. If frivolous claims are being filed then punishing those who make these frivolous claims should suffice as a deterrent. That's what happens in regular courts and it makes people think twice before suing.

Instead of exempting them from the easiest mode of justice available to most victims. They say the court oversteps its jurisdiction but there are ways to deal with ultra vires by a court as opposed to this action. You don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

It's basically us doing the same as the tories undermining employee rights.

Used to be if your boss treated you unfairly, you would complain it would go to arbitration, courts etc, whoever was found in the wrong would pay, and settlements etc carried out.

Now you need to have £2k sat around as an upfront payment if your boss treats you unfairly, sacks you unfairly, sexual harasses you, it puts such avenues of justice beyond most of society, given that a lot of the people being asked to slap down 2k are probably out of a job for the foreseeable future.

As mamba points out, it's just stopped the most vulnerable from being able to file a complaint.
