PSVR Review

Ok my PSVR unit arrived friday, and I thought I would post my early thoughts on the device and VR.

First thing that you cant miss is the amount of wires, it is easy enough to put together, but there is plenty of spaggetti to mess up your pristine TV unit/cabinet.

Still it was going to take more than that to stop me delving into VR and my first foray was with a disk called VR Worlds, It's a mix of stuff and the loading screens are pretty impressive, with firey/water balls whizzing around until you finally get to choose what to play.

I chose Ocean descent, a demo that has been used for a long time to show off PSVR, so I knew what to expect, fair to say it was interesting but ultimately a bit meh ( although Im sure some will enjoy it), I continue my quest to find something to grab my attention and try street luge, unfortunately next door neighbour came round and didnt get much of a try, but again came across as nothing to write home about.

I had to go back to work and on returning continued to play around with the device, trying all sorts but still nothing that really wowed me, finally the kitchen Demo downloaded, again a demo I knew well, but this was the first one that really put me into the game, the graphics were impressive and looked like a scene from Saw, I like horror and knew what to expect so it was never going to scare me, but if you are a wuss, it will leave it's mark.

Encouraged, and with my Move controllers finally charged, I give London Heist a go (again a demo that has been used a lot to show off VR) so again I knew what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised to find out how responsive the move controllers were and how intuitive they were to use, after being shown how my new hands worked, by picking up a gun shooting a target then dropping it in a tray, I was presented with the first scene.

Sitting at a table in a pub was not what I expected, an unlit cigar in an ash tray and a lighter on the table in front of me, it was second nature to pick up the cigar in one hand and the lighter in the other, bring the cigar to my mouth and light it.

A guy enters and starts going on about something or other, I playfully pretend to suck on the cigar while he yabbers on, what I didnt expect was when I blew out from my mouth I would be blowing out virtual smoke too, it was bizzarre and I actually started coughing as I inhaled on my virtual cigar and smoke wafted around me.

I continued with the demo, and it actually turned into a great experience and was the first game that really showed (to me) the power of VR.

I wont go on, but to sum up, the device is comfortable, Tracks well, the Move controllers ( if you are interested in PSVR get some) worked really well, and was an enjoyable enough experience.

VR has a way to go to truly make it's mark, but PSVR is a good start, whether VR interests you or not, you really should give it a go.

I could go on, but any questions, just ask.

Any motion sickness?

Not really which has surprised me, as I do suffer motion sickness, there are moments, like the roller coaster sections in Until Dawn VR, but I dont let my mind concentrate on the sickness feeling and concentrate on the game, and it soon goes.

Here they lie probably affected me the most, but nothing I couldn't handle, although I didn't play it for long.

Generally motion sickness isn't the issue I thought it would be, for me at least.

Out of stock here in Aus but can get one on eBay for $700 ish. Do I need to buy move controllers too?

You don't need move controllers, but certain games do, and they really add to the immersion.

If you want to get the most out of VR the move controllers are a must, I have just finished batman, it needed the Move controllers, but wow, just wow.

Funnily enough, there is VR pawn, but I'm not sure you can use it with the PSVR.

But for sure pawn will use VR.

Yes I know I spelled pawn wrong, but it won't let me use the proper spelling.

Actually thinking about it, it's only VR video so you probably can get it.

Good, for a moment I thought you were talking about an immersive world of buying and selling things in run down trinket shops

That sounds like a very specific fetish.
