Wayne Rooney and Henrikh Mkhitarya were not with the United squad that travelled to London from Stockport station.
I'd like to know what injury Mkhi has suffered to still not make the bench.

Stretty, my point it is clearly not ability and I doubt adaption is such an issue as Lingard is inferior in every facet of the game but is starting for Jose. It has to be something else. we can both agree that Lingard is not good enough for this club and that MIK is much better, so lets hope we see him start ahead of him because if we are going to compete we can't have players like Lingard starting every week.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why not? If you've been watching United for a few years, you'll know that so-called lesser lights like O'Shea, Brown and Fletcher can be integral to success over a season. Lingard is a good option to have, and not just because he'll run around a bit.
Ironic that you pick the player whose goal won us our most recent trophy as an example of a player who won't win you things.

especially if we have ambitions to be amongst the best sides. Do you really need to have this explained?

No, I don't. Which is why I gave you the examples of squad players.
Anyway, let's focus on getting back near the top of our own league for now. With all due respect, Leicester won it last year. I think Lingard's good enough to be a squad player near the top of such a league.

Yeah, but my point is not about him just being a squad player. Our core attackers need to be close to or world class.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wonder if you'd settle for anything less than Messi, Suarez and Neymar. At the moment, we have Mata, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Rashford, Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Memphis and Lingard going for three or four positions. Not bad at all. With the exception of Martial, you could argue that Lingard has done as much as any of those for United over the last twelve months to justify selection.
I wanted Pedro back when we were linked with him. I don't think I'd swap him for Lingard today. Is Lingard in my strongest XI, though? No, he isn't. But strongest XIs don't really tend to win you leagues on their own.

Lingard is not good enough to start every game, especially if we have ambitions to be amongst the best sides. Do you really need to have this explained? Look at the best sides in the world! do they play a player that is best suited to the lower half of the table? we need attackers who can bring in a goal and assist near enough a game and Lingard is not going to do that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ferguson created United sides that figured amongst the very best in the world and relied heavily on the likes of Park, Fletcher, Butt, O'Shea, Sharpe and Fortune.
These players weren't in the squad because we couldn't afford like-for-like replacements for Giggs, Cantona, RVN, Keane and Scholes; they were there because they offered different attributes, that weren't necessarily as immediately obvious but were as valuable to the team.
A side of ten Ronaldos filling the outfield positions would be battered by average sides. Football is not about finding the eleven naturally most technically gifted players you can and just putting them out on the field together. It doesn't work that way.
And, by the way, our two most valuable offensive players of the last 20 years never provided an average of a goal/assist per game. And they were the best players in the world at what they did.
